Fabrizio Romano says a "big name" player is "absolutely ready" to leave his club as Arsenal target him for manager Mikel Arteta.
Who will Arsenal sign in 2024?
The north Londoners, despite links to other transfer targets like Royal Antwerp's Arthur Vermeeren and Club Brugge forward Andreas Skov Olsen this week, are widely tipped with potentially signing the likes of Brentford star Ivan Toney or Wolves winger Pedro Neto. The former, who scored 20 league goals for the Bees last season prior to his gambling ban, looks set to be one of England's hottest transfer commodities in the new year. He returns to action on January 17, and given his excellent past form under Thomas Frank, it's little surprise big clubs like Arsenal are circling.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
Neto, meanwhile, has been dazzling under manager Gary O'Neil this season; scoring one goal and assisting five others already after coming back from a serious injury. This has prompted some rumours that the Portuguese could come as an alternative to Bukayo Saka on that side. Whichever position Arteta decides to shore up, there are many calls for Arsenal to bring in a centre-forward and proven goalscorer.
Ivan Toney transfer update
Going back to Brentford's star man, respected transfer journalist Romano now has a Toney transfer update as he gears up for a move away from west London. According to this reporter, writing on his Daily Briefing, the 27-year-old "big name" is "absolutely ready" to leave in the new year – which could come as a boost for Arsenal as they keep tabs on his situation alongside English capital rivals Chelsea.
"He’s another big name to watch for January," wrote Romano.
"Arsenal and Chelsea are informed on Toney’s situation, they know his situation very well and that he’s ready to make a top club move in January. It will depend on how much these clubs want to spend, because Toney will likely cost at least £60-65m to sign from Brentford. Let’s see if Chelsea decide to attack the situation, or if Arsenal go for him.
"In any case, Toney is absolutely ready to leave Brentford."
We believe the striker would be an ideal fit to bolster Arteta's forward line, especially considering his already-proven Premier League experience and the fact he could cost just £60 million. In this day and age, that kind of fee for a 20-goal-per-season forward is arguably bargain material.
His manager has also called Toney an "amazing" and "remarkable" player, saying this on his star man earlier in the year.
“Ivan is amazing in many, many aspects,” Frank told Brentford's official website.
“The way he copes with pressure and distractions is amazing. He’s been scoring goals, performing for the team and driving the team. He’s remarkable.
“I can only talk about the Ivan that I see every day around the place and he’s a fantastic person around the group. He’s got that unique emotional intelligence to be aware of all the players, and every staff member."

Manchester United have been hit with “one more big blow” when it comes to injuries, Fabrizio Romano reports.
Man Utd injury news
The Red Devils and Erik ten Hag haven’t had any luck when it comes to injuries this season, with the club making their worst start to a season since 1962/63 following an eighth loss of the campaign last week to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup. Ten Hag has been without a number of key players, especially in defence, and in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Fulham, seven of the first-team squad were missing through injury.

Two of those are arguably key to Ten Hag’s style of play in Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez, and by the looks of things, the pair may not be seen for the remainder of the calendar year.
Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez injuries
Martínez has been out since September with a foot injury, whereas Casemiro suffered a hamstring problem in the Carabao Cup defeat against Newcastle last week. Speaking to the media in the week, Ten Hag admitted that he’s not expecting to be able to call upon either star player before Christmas.
"I have some time schedules, but it's always difficult to expect that because they can have setbacks during rehab periods. Casemiro and Martinez are really strong injuries, I don't expect them back before Christmas."
Reacting to the update on Casemiro and Martinez, Romano took to X and simply said:
“One more big blow for Manchester Utd.”
The news is certainly a big blow for everyone at Old Trafford, with the games coming thick and fast before the New Year. Ten Hag appears to be under some pressure following a poor start to the season as well, but he’ll have to make do without the South American stars over the next six weeks, something which could prove to be a tricky period with a number of games away from Old Trafford coming up.

Ten Hag has been forced to use the likes of Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire in recent months in Martinez’s absence, with Raphael Varane also struggling with injury earlier in the season, whereas summer signings Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount alongside Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen are all options in midfield to cover for Casemiro.
In better injury news, though, full-backs Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw could make their long-awaited returns to the squad following the November international break, which will give Ten Hag more options at left-back, where Diogo Dalot has been providing cover.

Palmer and Henderson missed Brazil lossSouthgate reveals duo could returnEngland take on Belgium on March 26Getty WHAT HAPPENED?
Palmer remained unavailable for Southgate's selection during the loss to Dorival Junior's Brazil side for unknown reasons, however, the Chelsea star has trained normally all week with the national team and will remain in contention for the clash against Belgium on Tuesday. Henderson will also be up for selection as per Southgate.
AdvertisementWHAT SOUTHGATE SAID
Speaking to the media after the Brazil match, Southgate said: "The two boys trained today, so they’ve come through that okay. So they should join the group that will train tomorrow [Sunday], so we’ll go from there with that.
"Tuesday, Belgium have played a different eleven, or close to, so they’re going to be a bit fresher. But similar to tonight, we’re talking about a high-level game, a brilliant experience for the players, a chance to see new players again, build towards the summer."
GettyTHE BIGGER PICTURE
The two players are currently at very different stages in their international and club careers but could be equally as important for Southgate when he leads his side to Germany for Euro 2024. The tournament is likely to be Henderson's last major tournament with his country, while Palmer is still looking for his third cap with the Three Lions and seems almost certain to be a part of Southgate's squad for the tournament.

ScorecardYorkshire’s thoughts soon turned to next week’s Roses match as play ended with handshakes at 4.20pm as a slow-moving, often attritional contest from drifted to its inevitable conclusion after the rain-reduced third day.Contained within the first half-hour were pretty much all the significant developments on the final day. Tom Kohler-Cadmore completed his maiden first-class century as a Yorkshire player – well-deserved, too – and Yorkshire made the 43 they had needed overnight to claim a fifth batting bonus point. It is the first time this season that Yorkshire have collected all five and will give them a much-needed sense of stability ahead of a contest that could decide the fate of both counties. It leaves them still next to bottom of the Division One table, still behind Lancashire, but only by one point and with a game in hand.A Roses match is always an occasion but next week’s encounter at Headingley, the latest in terms of starting date in the rivalry’s history, thus has more riding on it than most. If there is a positive outcome, whoever wins probably sends the other one down.Certainly, in Lancashire’s case, a victory looks imperative, with only Hampshire at the Rose Bowl to follow. Yorkshire, who won handsomely at Old Trafford in July even with James Anderson in Lancashire’s line-up, are unbeaten in the last five first-class Roses matches.”It’s a massive game,” first-team coach Andrew Gale said. “The ones that come after will be big too, but in the context of things, with both of us where we are in the table, the Lancashire game is huge.”But we have come away from this game after a difficult few weeks having played well, winning the key passages of play. Tom Kohler-Cadmore showed what a good player he is and the batting display overall was really solid.”The lads have got a spring in their step again and we know if we play well over a long enough period of time at Headingley we will win the game. Maybe there is a little bit more pressure on them with one game less to come but they are a good side and they will be confident too.”That aforementioned half-hour was the most exciting of the match, the crucial 110th over – bowled by Samit Patel, which Yorkshire began still needing seven for 400 – a contest all of its own.A single from Kohler-Cadmore preceded a dot ball before Tim Bresnan took a comfortable leg-bye, then Kohler-Cadmore, giving himself room to go inside out against the left-arm spinner, was bowled leg stump. It meant that, with five still needed, new batsman Matthew Waite – playing in only his third first-class match – effectively had to score off his first ball, if only to get Bresnan down to the striker’s end for the last one.The two batsmen conferred in the middle, where the 22-year-old presumably said something along the lines of ‘leave it to me’ to his senior partner. Confidently stepping down the pitch, he drove his first ball through the covers for four and the next past mid-on with the same outcome. Job done. “That’s what you get with young players,” Gale said. “He was fearless.”Waite, who later swept Patel for consecutive sixes, had been Yorkshire’s most effective bowler, also, which would make his omission against Lancashire look a little harsh, although with Steve Patterson likely to return after injury and Ben Coad a possible too Yorkshire may have to decide between him, the legspinner Josh Poysden and the pace of Mathew Pillans, the new arrival from Surrey, who conceded 128 runs in 30 overs in this match without taking a wicket. One selection not in doubt is Kohler-Cadmore, who rounded off his fifth career first-class century by pulling and glancing Harry Gurney for consecutive fours before raising his bat towards the Yorkshire balcony, where all the players and coaching staff had lined up to applaud what had been a measured innings of high quality.Patel, who had not bowled as many overs in an innings since sending down 60 of Durham’s 171 in a September match at Chester-le-Street in 2009, showed patience of a different kind to come through such a long test of his mental agility and was rewarded with 6-114, his best figures in the Championship since his career-best 7-68 against Hampshire in July 2011 and, slightly surprisingly, given his aggregate, only the fifth five-wicket haul of his career. The last of the six, neatly enough, was his 300th first-class wicket for Nottinghamshire as Jake Libby, fielding under the helmet on the off-side, snapped up a catch to dismiss Jack Brooks, to be followed quickly by a first for the county for Libby’s occasional offspin as Bresnan, whose 82-ball half-century had been important in winning the extra point, was well taken at mid-on for 80, his highest Championship score for two years.Nottinghamshire, whose left-arm seamer Harry Gurney left the field mid-over after feeling tightness in a calf, faced 31 fairly meaningless overs in what remained. Jack Brooks did not bowl for Yorkshire, who felt it better to give him more rest ahead of next week. Matthew Fisher and David Willey, who also missed this match, will be assessed over the weekend, although Gale is reluctant to take risks with anyone’s fitness, even with so much at stake.
Newcastle United look a force to be reckoned with once again this season, but despite the club's successes, it seems that manager Eddie Howe is still looking to bolster his ranks come January.
Who could Newcastle sign next?
The Toon boss' strategy is hardly surprising; Newcastle boast wealth unrivalled by the majority of their Premier League foes and have been steadily improving the squad ever since the PIF takeover two years ago.
With this in mind, the Magpies might be preparing a raid on rivals Arsenal for disgruntled midfielder Emile Smith Rowe, with TEAMtalk reporting that the club officials will meet imminently to discuss transfer plans, with the 23-year-old at the heart of discussions.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.
TEAMtalk have also recently highlighted West Ham United's interest in the player, but that the Gunners would only consider a sale if their £60m valuation is met.
How good is Emile Smith Rowe?
That exorbitant price tag is undoubtedly a deterrent for interested parties – for West Ham, it would mean breaking their record transfer fee; Newcastle, putting him on the same pedestal as club-record acquisition Alexander Isak, who joined for £63m.
And for a midfielder who has sat on the fringe for some time – a talented midfielder, mind – this will likely need whittling down before concrete negotiations can commence.
Smith Rowe is now fully fit after enduring a lengthy layoff that cost him prominence at the Emirates Stadium, but has only made two brief substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, sitting on the bench for six outings.
He is undoubtedly a quality-filled gem – dubbed "wonderful" by pundit Gary Neville – who could make a marked impact on Newcastle's team, with the 2021/22 league season illustrating his first-class attributes.
Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.
As per Sofascore, the £40k-per-week dynamo scored ten goals from just 21 starts that year, completing 87% of his passes and succeeding with 60% of his dribbles, hailed for his "incredibly prolific" form by talent scout Jacek Kulig.
Securing his signature, Newcastle could repeat their success in signing Joe Willock, who joined the Tynesiders on an initial loan deal in January 2021 before wrapping up a £25m move in the summer.
Having enjoyed an immense goalscoring run of his own during that loan spell, bagging eight times from 14 matches – including a seven-match scoring streak – Newcastle may well emulate their signing with Smith Rowe.
Willock is described as a midfielder with "limitless" potential by writer Simon Collings, and while he is out injured at the moment, his qualities are clear after serving a central role in his club's sensational 2022/23 campaign, landing a top-four spot.
With two interchanging stars of impressive technical ability, Howe would have exactly what his squad needs to compete across multiple fronts and push for Champions League football and silverware with regularity.
As relayed by Fabrizio Romano in June 2021, Arteta was emphatic in proclaiming the players' positions in the Emirates Stadium side's plans, but Willock was soon to leave permanently, and Smith Rowe might now be next.
Perhaps Arteta was confident in his squad's options, and perhaps he was right; Arsenal aren't exactly struggling under the Spaniard's wing, but both players could now unite to prove their worth with Newcastle, starring as the Magpies take flight.
Liverpool are believed to be keeping tabs on an exciting young player ahead of a potential move to Anfield, according to a fresh transfer update.
Liverpool transfer news
The Reds had a summer transfer window that is looking increasingly brilliant, with the midfield completely transformed compared to last season, thanks to the players who have come in. Dominik Szoboszlai has been a sensational addition from RB Leipzig, Alexis Mac Allister is getting better all the time in a No.6 role, while Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo have also made solid contributions.
Jurgen Klopp and FSG deserves huge credit for the business they have done, and while the midfield rebuild has been magnificent, further work could soon be done in other areas of the pitch. There is arguably too much onus on Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back at the moment, with centre-back Joe Gomez providing cover and young players such as Conor Bradley still lacking experience, and it looks as though Liverpool are eyeing a signing in that area.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool want Devyne Rensch
According to a latest transfer update from Football Insider, Liverpool are interested in signing Ajax youngster Devyne Rensch, as they look for right-back signings:
"Liverpool are keeping tabs on versatile Ajax defender Devyne Rensch, sources have told Football Insider. The Merseysiders are assessing the market for potential right-back signings who can fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system and also potentially slot in to other defensive roles.
"Rensch is believed to be a target for the club’s recruitment team, with Premier League title rivals Arsenal also closely monitoring the Netherlands international.
"The defender is the first-choice right-back at Ajax and has already racked up 101 first-team appearances for the Dutch giants even though he is just 20 years old. He has notched one assist in nine games across all competitions this season but has missed out on their last three outings with an injury."
Rensch looks like a really exciting young player who is already making waves at Ajax, emerging as arguably one of the most talented players from their youth system.
This isn't a young hopeful who lacks experience, however, with Rensch's statistics highlighting the fact that he has already made 101 appearances for the Eredivisie giants, scoring seven goals and registering six assists in that time to showcase his attacking quality.
Said Ouaali, Ajax's head of youth development, clearly rates him highly as a footballer, saying of him in the past:
"He has great vision, athleticism and technique, so he has a number of attributes to have an amazing career. I’m proud that he is making these steps at such a young age, although he has to stay humble."

Not only that, but Liverpol target Rensch is a two-footed player whose versatility allows him to shine as a right-back, centre-back and left-back, which will surely appeal to Klopp, seeing him as a good option across the back-line. Right-back could be where he is predominantly seen as the best option, however, coming in and acting as a backup to Alexander-Arnold.
Newcastle United have been dealt a big injury blow to a "phenomenal" Magpies player alongside the issue for Jacob Murphy, manager Eddie Howe has confirmed.
Newcastle injury news
The Magpies have generally done well so far this season, securing some impressive victories in both the Premier League and Champions League, and it has been made all the more impressive by the injury problems they have faced.
Howe has had to make do without a string of key players throughout the campaign, with Sven Botman the most noticeable absentee of late, and fans starting to worry over the vaguness of updates on the Dutchman's knee. Meanwhile, Alexander Isak has been unavailable in attack due to a muscle problem and Harvey Barnes is still out long-term.
That is just a few of the injury problems facing Newcastle, and they head to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening for a crucial Champions League clash with further problems now. Both Murphy and Dan Burn are out of the game, having both been forced off during last Saturday's 1-0 win at home to Arsenal at St James' Park, as the setbacks continue to mount.
Now, an update has been provided regarding the timescale on Burn's injury – one that is unlikely to be met with happiness from Newcastle supporters.
Newcastle dealt Burn blow
Speaking ahead of the Dortmund game, via Sky Sports and Fabrizio Romano on X, Howe confirmed that Burn is facing months on the sidelines for Newcastle after falling awkwardly against Arsenal:
"Unfortunately, Dan will be out for some time. It could be a couple of months, that is sort of a speculative answer. He landed on his spine; I think he has got a problem with the base of his spine.
"It is a big blow for us. He has been gigantic for us since he signed, for a lot of different reasons. His character, his determination, his experience and versatility too – so it is not just one position we are losing."
There is no denying how big a blow this is for the Magpies, with Burn such a model of consistency at left-back in recent years, shining so much for his boyhood club.
This season, Burn's statistics alone highlight what a big impact he is having, with one goal apiece coming his way in the league and in Europe – his header against Paris Saint-Germain was arguably the moment of the season so far – as well as averaging a whopping five clearances per game in the latter.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United and England star Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on the 31-year-old, saying: "The story is phenomenal. He has a season ticket here. His heart must be pumping out of his chest. What a moment for him his family and this club."

The hope is that Burn's absence doesn't end up being as long as Howe fears, but there is no doubt that it could have a significant impact on Newcastle's season, as they look to shine across four different competitions.
It could even mean having to shift Kieran Trippier to left-back – a position he has played in before for club and country – and Tino Livramento slotting in at right-back, although there will also be plenty of chances for Lewis Hall to shine.
