Aston Villa have been considering their options for the remainder of the transfer window, as manager Unai Emery eyes additional reinforcements before the market closes.

Following a double injury blow to Emiliano Buendia and Tyrone Mings, it’s expected that the Villans could revise a list of targets in defensive and attacking areas in preparation for the season to come.

Having already signed four talents in Youri Tielemans, Moussa Diaby, Pau Torres and Nicolo Zaniolo, a new potential acquisition has emerged, however, it’s not certain that he could bring the same level of excitement as the earlier arrivals.

It was expected that Monchi would seal a reunion with his former player at Sevilla in Marcos Acuna, however, journalist Rudy Galetti relayed recent news that talks between the two clubs have “stalled”.

Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares was also identified as a potential target, however another name has now emerged, with Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso listed as one of interest in the Midlands.

Spanish publication AS claimed that Emery is ready to place a “firm offer” to sign the 32-year-old, who could be offloaded this summer due to the Catalan giants’ ongoing financial issues.

In Alonso, Villa could sign a player well-known in the Premier League following his stints at Chelsea, Sunderland and Bolton, however at 32 years of age, the veteran defender is nearing his sell-by date.

The Spaniard was once described as being “awful defensively” by BBC Sport contributor Raj Chohan, making Villa’s chase for him far below the buzz of the earlier arrivals this summer.

It wouldn’t be the first time that the Midlands club have welcomed a talent past his best from Barcelona, with the potential move having the capacity to replicate the disappointment of Philippe Coutinho’s move from Catalonia in January 2022.

The injury-prone Brazilian, like Alonso had some exemplary spells in the Premier League earlier in his career, yet has not been able to even remotely mimic the form he displayed for Liverpool.

However, unlike Coutinho, the Spaniard was shunned in the latter stages of his days at Stamford Bridge, and was far from being regarded as one of the best in his position.

The dip in the Madrid-born dud’s game is evident through his statistics last season, in comparison to those in his debut Premier League campaign for the Blues back in the 2016/17 calendar.

As per WhoScored, Alonso averaged 1.8 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game for Chelsea in that season, averaging a stellar match rating of 7.39 per game.

The pattern was not replicated when revising his numbers last term, in which he averaged just 0.6 tackles and 0.5 interceptions per game at left-back for Barcelona, contributing an average match rating of 6.53 in La Liga.

Earning £100k-per-week at Barcelona and considering his drop-off in form at this stage of his career, Monchi and Emery could find a host of far-superior options to the veteran in the left-back position.

The BCB has taken a slow and steady approach to appointing Bangladesh’s next head coach, according to president Nazmul Hassan. Nottingham Forest have now submitted a bid for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez, and they have already received a response from the Spanish side, a recent report has revealed.

Who are Nottingham Forest signing this summer?

Forest got their first win of the Premier League season on the board on Friday night, defeating Sheffield United 2-1, but they remain in the market for new reinforcements, and a new midfielder appears to be one of Steve Cooper's priorities.

The Tricky Trees have now made an offer for Bologna defensive midfielder Nicolas Dominguez, and they are set to battle for the 25-year-old's signature with Galatasaray, although Brighton & Hove Albion and AC Milan are also named as potential suitors.

Another key midfield target for the Reds has been Benfica's Florentino Luis, having already had two offers turned down by the Portuguese club, the most recent of which amounting to €35m (£30m).

The report makes it clear that Forest could be back with a new bid in the near future, but in the meantime they have started to run the rule over other targets, and they have now made an attempt to sign Real Betis' Rodriguez.

That is according to a report from ABC Sevilla (via Sport Witness), which states the Tricky Trees made a bid to sign the 29-year-old on Friday night, however it was immediately knocked back by the Spanish club, as it was far below their asking price.

Betis are looking to hold out for a fee of €12m (£10m), but the Reds' opening offer amounted to less than €10m (£8.5m), so it appears as though the two clubs are still some way apart.

A reason why Forest may have offered so little is because the midfielder has just entered the final year of his contract, with his agents "moving his name" through the market, as he has no interest in signing a new deal.

Betis are willing to listen to bids, given that they risk losing the Argentine for free next summer, but the Tricky Trees will need to come back with a higher offer if they are to get a deal over the line.

Who is Guido Rodriguez?

Born in Saenz Pena, Argentina, the Betis star made his breakthrough in his home country, appearing for River Plate 18 times, before going on to prove himself in the Mexican league with Club Tijuana and CF America.

Since then, the maestro has become an integral player for Betis, making 34 La Liga appearances last season, while also amassing 29 caps for Argentina, featuring once during the nation's 2022 World Cup triumph.

The Argentina international has been lauded as a "defensive monster" by football analyst Marcus Bring, and it is clear to see why, given that he ranks in the 99th percentile for tackles, and the 97th percentile for clearances per 90 over the past year.

Although he is now 29-years-old and approaching the latter stages of his career, Rodriguez has proven he is worth Betis' asking price of £10m, and Forest should undoubtedly return with a new and improved offer in the coming days.

وتوصل برشلونة إلى اتفاق مع هانز فليك من أجل تولي مسؤولية تدريب الفريق الكتالوني، خلفًا لـ تشافي، بدءًا من الموسم المقبل.

While the recent early exit from the Carabao Cup will no doubt have stung for Tottenham Hotspur, it has largely been a positive start to life under new boss Ange Postecoglou so far, with two wins and a draw from the club's opening three Premier League games.

Despite that solid opening to the new regime, it looks as if the former Celtic boss is still keen to further strengthen before the end of the window, with Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo a player of particular interest to the Lilywhites.

How much would Tosin Adarabioyo cost?

Following reports linking Spurs with a move for the 25-year-old earlier in the summer, 90min has reported in recent days that the north Londoners still hold a strong interest in the 6 foot 5 titan, with the player 'set to move on' before the close of the window.

As per the piece, Postecoglou and co are believed to have offered Eric Dier to the Cottagers as a potential sweetener in the deal, albeit with it yet to be seen whether the 29-year-old will move on this summer, after spending the last nine years at Tottenham.

With just a year left to run on his contract, Adarabioyo is likely to be available for something of a bargain fee if he is to depart any time soon, with a €15m (£13m) fee having previously been suggested.

How good is Tosin Adarabioyo?

Previously dubbed "immense" by former boss Tony Mowbray during his time on loan at Blackburn Rovers, it is fair to say that the current Fulham man has particularly blossomed since making the move to Craven Cottage back in 2020, having begun life on the books at Manchester City.

The towering asset was particularly impressive last term as the then newly-promoted side comfortable mid-table finish, notably averaging a solid 2.2 tackles and interceptions per game from his 25 league outings – a better return than Dier achieved for instance (two tackles and interceptions per game from 33 appearances).

While, as stated above, Dier may be keen to stay put beyond the deadline, the signing of a figure like Adarabioyo could well help to nudge him out the door even if the Englishman does not head in the other direction to Fulham, with Bayern Munich having been touted as a possible option of late.

As per journalist Ryan Taylor, the former Sporting CP man is arguably "nowhere near the required level for what Spurs are trying to achieve", hence why he has found himself out of the picture under Postecoglou thus far.

One particular benefit of bringing Adarabioyo into the fold would be his ability to play out from the back as he notably ranks in the top 18% among those in his position in Europe's top five leagues for progressive passes, while Dier ranks in just the bottom 40% in that regard.

With the latter man having potentially outstayed his welcome – as pundit Frank McAvennie previously suggested that "Tottenham will not succeed with Dier in the team" – the signing of a standout replacement could well be what is needed for Postecoglou to finally send him packing.
