Chelsea Leading Race For "Outstanding" Midfielder

Chelsea are one of the clubs who are going into the summer transfer window with the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Kouadio Kone.

Do Chelsea need another midfielder?

Reports would suggest the Blues are going into the summer window with another midfielder on their radar given the links to the likes of Declan Rice.

And it seems as if they will enter the summer window with a list of potential targets which could also include the sought-after Jude Bellingham.

However, they already seem to be among the front-runners in the race to potentially sign Kone from the Bundesliga side ahead of the summer.

Indeed, speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has suggested a move to London could potentially be on the cards for the young Frenchman:

(1:20) "It's my understanding that three clubs in this moment are leading the race for Manu Kone. One for sure, at the moment, from my understanding, is Chelsea.

"Chelsea appreciate Manu Kone. They have many players in the list, we have to include Roméo Lavia, we have to include the situation of Declan Rice, they are always monitoring, but we know that also Manu Kone is a player they are following."

Would Kone improve Chelsea?

As a result of Jorginho's departure and Ngolo Kante's long-term injury issue, Mateo Kovacic has been handed a lot of opportunities in the Chelsea side this season.

The Croatian has already racked up 19 appearances in the Premier League despite dealing with his own setbacks throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

However, a big summer addition in midfield could potentially see his spot in the side come under serious threat given the club recently spent over £100m on the addition of Enzo Fernandez.

The 21-year-old, Kone, has played 24 times for Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga this season and provided the same return of one goal and one assists as Kovacic (via Transfermarkt).

Soccer Football – Bundesliga – Borussia Moenchengladbach v FC Cologne – Borussia-Park, Moenchengladbach, Germany – October 9, 2022 Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Kouadio Kone celebrates with fans after the match REUTERS/Thilo Schmuelgen DFL REGULATIONS PROHIBIT ANY USE OF PHOTOGRAPHS AS IMAGE SEQUENCES AND/OR QUASI-VIDEO.

Journalist Josh Bunting hailed Kone earlier in the season as "outstanding in the hole" after "dictating the tempo of the play" in Gladbach's game against Bayern Munich.

And this has been a theme which has continued throughout the 2022/23 campaign with the 21-year-old ranking in the top percentile for successful take-ons across the top five leagues (via FBref).

The youngster has also registered more tackles per 90 minutes this season in comparison to Kovacic as well as over double the number of ball recoveries so far this season (via FBref).

The future of Kante remains uncertain with his deal set to expire at the end of the season and no new deal in place, if the Frenchman is to leave, perhaps Kone could provide them with a long-term option in the middle.

Given there are reports suggesting the Blues will face competition from Arsenal for Rice's signature, Kone could potentially be n alternative they could look to at a cheaper fee.

Crystal Palace Eye Move For Kyogo Furuhashi

Crystal Palace are believed to be interested in signing Celtic attacker Kyogo Furuhashi during the summer transfer window, according to a new update.

Is Kyogo having a good season?

The 28-year-old has become an influential player for the Hoops since arriving from Vissel Kobe back in 2021, scoring 48 goals in just 74 appearances, as well as chipping in with 10 assists. This season, he has netted 22 times in 26 Scottish Premiership matches, standing out as one of the most effective attacking players in the division.

Kyogo's brilliance stood out again on Saturday as Celtic beat bitter rivals Rangers 3-2 at Parkhead, with the Japanese scoring two of his side's goals on the day, as they edge closer to the title glory this season.

While the forward's current Hoops deal doesn't expire until the end of the 2024/25 season, it could be that he looks for a new challenge this summer, with a move to the Premier League possibly on the cards. That's where Palace come into play, as they look to make some key signings during the upcoming window.

Could Palace snap up Celtic man this summer?

According to Football Insider, the Eagles have "watched the 28-year-old regularly this season and have been left impressed by his performances". Celtic are believed to be "braced for offers" for one of their most important players, while a "bid of £15million could be enough to prise the forward away from Parkhead".

Kyogo could be a really shrewd signing by Palace this summer, coming in as a slightly different option than the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise. The 16-cap and three-goal Japan international leads the line with a combination of quality, hard work and team ethic, not only scoring goals at a regular rate but also providing for others, as his aforementioned assist tally highlights.

The Eagles are lacking a ruthless goalscorer currently, with Odsonne Edouard and Jean-Philippe Matete scoring just five times between them in the Premier League. Granted, Kyogo could find the step up from the Scottish Premiership tough to adjust to, but he should still be a strong option than the current Palace attacking central pair, having been called "outstanding" by Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.

At 28, Kyogo is at peak age to come in and make an immediate impact at Selhurst Park, possessing plenty of experience at this point in his career, but also still hopefully remaining in and around his prime years for the foreseeable future.

Tottenham Eyeing Move For £375k-P/W Star

Tottenham are believed to be interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea during the summer transfer window, according to a fresh report.

Could De Gea make Man United exit?

The future of the 32-year-old has been up in the air for some time now, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season and no extension signed yet. He has been a true legend of the Premier League era for United, making 529 appearances for the club and arguably proving to be as good as Peter Schmeichel at times.

There have been question marks over whether he is ideally suited to Erik ten Hag's style of play, however, in terms of his use of the ball with his feet and ability to play out of tight areas. For that reason, he could potentially move on this summer, although recent reports have also suggested that he could yet extend his stay at Old Trafford.

Should De Gea decide to enjoy a fresh challenge when the current campaign reaches its conclusion, he won't be without suitors at that point.

David de Gea warms-up for Manchester United's Europa League clash against Real Betis.

Could Spurs pip Bayern?

According to a report from Spain [via Caught Offside], both Tottenham and Bayern are interested in acquiring De Gea's signature at the end of the season. They see him as a replacement for Hugo Lloris, who could depart north London in the summer after an 11-year spell there.

It could be that a move to a club of Bayern's stature has more chance of developing, although Manuel Neuer remains a formidable presence at the Bundesliga giants.

In many ways, De Gea, who Martin Keown called 'excellent', could be a great signing by Spurs – undoubtedly acting as an upgrade on Lloris at this point in their respective careers, with the latter making too many mistakes this season. The Spaniard is enjoying a largely strong season for United, starting 26 Premier League games and winning one Man of the Match award from WhoScored, also being described as "unbelievable" by teammate Marcus Rashford.

That being said, De Gea is still relatively old-school in his style of play, in terms of his aforementioned limitations in playing the ball out from the back, so that is something that could work against him joining, especially if a ball-playing manager comes into replace the departed Antonio Conte. At 32, the £375,000-per-week star is also arguably not quite at the absolute peak of his powers anymore, so a younger alternative could be wise when looking at the longer-term picture.

Tottenham Hotspur Still Monitoring £29k-p/w Ace

Tottenham Hotspur are still monitoring Norwich City's Max Aarons, although interest in the right-back is now growing, according to a recent report.

Do Tottenham need a right-back?

Tottenham have strengthened considerably at right-back in recent years, firstly bringing in Emerson Royal from Barcelona back in September 2021, in a deal worth £25.73m, before signing Pedro Porro in the January transfer window.

However, Emerson has been much-maligned this season, with journalist Josh Bunting launching a scathing attack on the Brazilian back in October, labelling him "dreadful", while Porro did not hit the ground running.

The Spaniard failed to dislodge Emerson in the starting XI to begin with, however he has since come into form, and Dan Kilpatrick from the Evening Standard said he looked 'technically sound' in yesterday's 2-1 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Even though the right-back has started to find his feet in the Premier League, Tottenham could look at strengthening in the summer transfer window, and The Sun report they are still monitoring Norwich City's Aarons.

The 23-year-old has been reluctant to leave the Canaries in the past, turning down two offers from unnamed Premier League clubs on deadline day, in order to focus on winning promotion from the Championship.

However, the Englishman could reconsider his stance this summer, amid growing interest in his signature, with Wolfsburg conducting a recent scouting mission.

The defender will be well known to Tottenham fans, having emerged as a top target for Jose Mourinho back in 2020.

Would Max Aarons be a good signing for Tottenham?

Members of the media have hailed the Norwich City ace this season, with Jack Reeve describing him as "superb", while also claiming he has the "maturity of a veteran."

One of the full-back's best attributes is his dribbling, ranking in the 98th percentile for progressive carries per 90 in the past year, and in the 85th for successful take-ons, when compared to other players in his position.

That said, similarly to Porro, the £29k-per-week ace does not always offer a lot to his side defensively, making far less clearances and blocks than an average full-back makes, over the course of the past year.

With Porro improving week-by-week, Tottenham have no real need to sign a player with very similar attributes in the summer transfer window, and they should instead focus on signing a new centre-back, given their defensive struggles, conceding 42 goals in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle Eyeing Possible Swoop For £130k p/w Winger

Newcastle United have been linked with a potential move for the Crystal Palace winger, and soon-to-be free agent, Wilfried Zaha ahead of the summer window.

Do Newcastle want to sign Zaha?

The Ivorian winger is set to become a free agent over the summer window when his contract with the Eagles expires after an eight-year stint with the club.

And it has been reported the Tyneside club may be one of the clubs who potentially look at the 30-year-old as a possible option for the summer.

However, they are not expected to be alone in the potential pursuit of the Ivorian as the likes of West Ham United have also been credited with interest.

And it seems as if lucrative offers could be on the table from Saudi Arabia for the Palace winger with one of the country's main clubs said to be eyeing him up.

The report linking the Toon to Zaha suggests the winger is keen to test himself in Europe which could certainly be possible at St. James' Park on the back of their impressive 2022/23 campaign to date.

However, speaking on the Everything Is Black & White podcast, journalist Aaron Stokes has urged Eddie Howe and Dan Ashworth to stay away from the 30-year-old:

(1:10) "I think I'm going to be the majority when I say this and that just, for me, he just doesn't do it for me. Far too moany. Honestly, the moaniest player I've ever seen in the Premier League.

"I just don't think I could get behind the deal. Fair play it's a free transfer, he's done wonders in that Palace for years who have always lacked a striker and have always lacked any attacking threat.

"He's always been the standout but for me, I just think for that type of player I wouldn't be going anywhere near it."

Would Zaha be a good addition to the squad?

Reports would suggest the Toon are looking to add to their options out wide with links already being established with the Leicester City wide man, Harvey Barnes.

But this is a position where Newcastle are fairly well stocked at with the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin and Anthony Gordon battling it out for the starting spot on the left.

There will have to be major questions asked as to whether the £130k-per-week ace would be willing to move to a club where he would not necessarily be the first-choice winger.

Wilfried Zaha comes off as Crystal Palace beat Leeds United in the Premier League.

Saint-Maximin has impressed over recent weeks and the Magpies spent big on Gordon, so there would be no easy way into Howe's starting XI for the Ivorian.

In comparison to Saint-Maximin, Zaha has offered a similar output in attack with eight goal contributions for the Ivorian and six for the current Newcastle ace (via FBref).

However, the majority of Zaha's involvements have come from scoring, whereas, Saint-Maximin has specialised in providing the goals for his teammates.

Former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew said Zaha has the "fastest feet" he's ever seen, however, Saint-Maximin has actually returned a higher success rate in taking on his man this season.

Perhaps Zaha could break his way into the Newcastle starting XI, but it does feel as if it could stir the pot on Tyneside if they are to bring in another big name winger.

Man United Need £40m To Sign "Complete" Defender

Manchester United have been told that they’ll need to pay £40m to sign AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi this summer, Football Insider report.

What’s the latest transfer news on Man United and Disasi?

Erik ten Hag is currently short of centre-backs heading into the run-in following injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, resulting in Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof starting in the Premier League against Nottingham Forest last time out.

However, it could be a busy summer at Old Trafford in the transfer market, with Maguire and Lindelof two players who Ten Hag has given the green light to sell. That would mean that reinforcements are required in the summer, with Disasi at the top of United’s defensive wishlist alongside Napoli centre-back Kim Min-Jae.

Reports have suggested that the Red Devils are in pole position to sign the France international, with Old Trafford recruitment chiefs excited by someone they see as a star in the making with huge potential.

There has now been a fresh update from Football Insider on Disasi and a move to Manchester, revealing in the last 48 hours that Monaco are open to selling the 25-year-old this summer provided their £40million valuation is met.

Chelsea and Manchester City are also name-checked with an interest in the defender, but the latest update has once again said that it is United who are leading the race.

Is Disasi the defensive answer at Old Trafford?

Disasi, described as a "complete" defender by talent scout Jacek Kulig, is primarily a centre-back but would also provide a versatile option at right-back, should he make the move to Manchester.

He appears to be at the peak of his powers with a career-high €25m Transfermarkt valuation and has once again been a regular for Monaco this season, taking his tally for appearances to 122 after turning out on 42 occasions in 2022/23.

The 6 foot 2 defender would also bring a goal threat to Old Trafford after contributing to an impressive 10 goals during the current campaign, and as per WhoScored, Disasi has actually outperformed every Red Devils centre-back.

The Monaco man has one more aerial duels than any United player on average and also ranks highly for the Ligue 1 side when it comes to interceptions and clearances made per game. Therefore, at £40m, a figure you'd expect is in the club's price range, Disasi could prove to be another shrewd signing by Ten Hag ahead of his second season in charge.

Sky News Share "Serious" Man United Takeover Update

American investors Carlyle are in talks with Manchester United over a major investment at Old Trafford, Sky News report.

What’s the latest Man United takeover news?

The Glazers have scheduled a third round of takeover bids, with a deadline for final offers set for Friday, 28th April.

Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe look set to make another bid to take full control from the Glazers, however, Finnish entrepreneur Thomas Zilliacus withdrew from the race to buy Manchester United, hitting out at the current owners and describing the process as a 'farce'.

It doesn’t look as if it is a straight shootout between Jassim and Ratcliffe, though, with a fresh update coming to light in recent hours.

Sky News reporter Mark Kleinman shared a Red Devils takeover update he’s heard from Old Trafford on Saturday morning. He revealed that Carlyle, one of the world's largest private equity firms, are in talks about a major investment, with a source close to the situation saying this weekend that their interest in Manchester United was "serious".

Carlyle are among a handful of parties which have pitched proposals to acquire a minority stake in the club, with the investor’s assets worth more than $370bn (£298bn).

Could this be what Avram Glazer is after?

The Glazers haven’t exactly all been on the same page during the takeover process, with previous reports suggesting that Avram Glazer doesn’t want to sell up. Therefore, allowing Carlyle to invest in the club by purchasing a stake at Old Trafford could be appealing to him, allowing him and his siblings to remain as majority owners.

However, should Jassim and Ratcliffe submit improved bids closer to their £6bn valuation over the coming weeks, that could also tempt the family into a complete sale.

It looks as if they will have plenty of options on the table when deciding their next step in May, but manager Erik ten Hag could be hoping that the process speeds up so that the off-field saga does not impact the club's transfer plans this summer, something which Old Trafford staff appear to be wary of.

Leeds: Media criticise Luke Ayling vs Crystal Palace

Leeds United defender Luke Ayling came in for criticism during the club's 5-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League this afternoon.

What happened at Elland Road between Leeds and Crystal Palace?

The Whites were looking to back up the midweek win over Nottingham Forest with another home victory over Palace and made a good start after Patrick Bamford headed Javi Gracia's side in front during the first half.

However, Marc Guehi's injury time equaliser before the break appeared to be a huge turning point, with the away side dominating in the second half with goals from Jordan Ayew, Eberechi Eze and Odsonne Edouard.

YouTube channel Tactical Manager took to Twitter to give his thoughts on Ayling after Ayew got in front of the full-back to head the away side in front. The account, which is followed by the likes of Fabrizio Romano, didn't hold back in their criticism of the Leeds defender, saying:

"Ayling is not a Premier League player, it’s truly remarkable the amount of times this guy fails Leeds."

What did the stats say on Ayling's performance?

Ayling kept his place in an unchanged starting line up, however, like many of the Whites side, had an afternoon to forget. As per SofaScore on the full-time whistle, the 31-year-old ended with a woeful 5.4/10 match rating.

The full-back was dribbled past on six occasions, more than any other defender. He also lost the ball on 31 occasions, again more than any defender and was second-best in 12 of his 18 duels. He was Leeds' worst-performing player, so Gracia may well look to ring the changes next time out against Liverpool, potentially with Rasmus Kristensen coming in.

Chelsea Are Keen On Signing £22m Giorgi Mamardashvili

Chelsea are genuinely monitoring the signing of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili during the summer transfer window, according to a fresh report.

Who is Mamardashvili?

The 22-year-old has established himself as a strong performer for the La Liga side, arguably standing out as one of the best players in the division in his position. He has started 29 league games so far this season and was once described as "amazing" by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.

Valued at £22m by Transfermarkt, Mamardashvili is contracted to Valencia until the summer of 2027, but that doesn't mean a summer move away is out of the question. Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United are all clubs who have been linked with signing the Georgian, who has won seven caps for hos country to date.

The Blues haven't looked wholly convincing between the sticks this season, with both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy struggled to consistently shine, so it could be that a new 'keeper arrive once the summer window rolls around. It certainly looks as though Mamardashvili could be the man to fill the void, following a new update.

Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili

Could Valencia star join Chelsea?

Taking to Twitter on Monday, journalist Fabrizio Romano talked up Chelsea's interest in Mamardashvili this summer:

"Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, expected to leave Valencia in any case at the end of the season despite contract extension signed few months ago.

"Told Chelsea and Tottenham are just monitoring his development; Leicester met with his agent 10 days ago."

Mamardashvili could be a great addition for Chelsea this summer, coming straight in as first-choice goalkeeper and hopefully acting as an upgrade on both Kepa and Mendy. He now has 53 appearances to his name for Valencia and is a young player who is growing all the time.

While some may point towards a potential lack of experience being an issue, given his age, it is easy to forget that Petr Cech was also only 22 years of age when he joined the Blues back in the summer of 2004.

Mamardashvili is now an established figure playing at the top level, and his ability to play the ball out from the back could appeal to whoever Chelsea's new manager ends up being, not to mention his impressive all-round game. The towering 6ft 6in Georgian has a presence that the Blues' current options arguably lacking, and they should look at him as a good option to sign at the end of the season.
