Leeds fans are fuming with Andrea Radrizzani over Jansson fee

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are furious with Andrea Radrizzani after Pontus Jansson was sold to Brentford for an initial £4m fee.

The Swede was one of the most-loved players at Elland Road, and supporters were gutted to see him go.

What infuriated the fans further though is the amount that they would be receiving for their key man.

Brentford have paid an up-front cost of £4m for a player who made it into the PFA Championship Team of the Year last season, and United supporters have pointed the finger at Radrizzani for selling him for so little.

Although Marcelo Bielsa apparently green-lighted this sale, fans were quick to criticise the Italian.

One Twitter user called it a ‘shocking decision’ while another stated that their former owners would have done a better job in reference to Ken Bates and Massimo Cellino.

Jansson will certainly be missed by United fans, but at the moment the main emotion they’re feeling is anger and it is being directed towards their chairman.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard sends farewell message to Peter Crouch

[ad_pod ]

After 677 games, 187 goals and countless brilliant celebrations, the legendary Peter Crouch has called it a day.

The 38-year-old centre-forward, standing at a whopping 6 foot 7, has taken to social media to officially confirm this rather sad news for the footballing world.

But what a career he has had.

468 Premier League appearances to his name with 108 goals scored in the competition, Crouch represented seven clubs in the top flight and managed 28 assists in the league as well.

Still, his Liverpool gig is definitely one of the highlights of his career as the coveted Englishman spent three glorious years at Anfield, scoring 42 goals, winning the FA Cup in 2006 and reaching the Champions League final in 2007.

So it was only right for Steven Gerrard, a legend of the Reds, to post a heartfelt message to his former teammate on

Crouch’s last campaign in the Premier League was with Burnley, as the forward’s last ever season ended with 32 appearances, two goals and an assist.

Everton should not make Fabian Delph captain, despite Stan Collymore’s suggestion

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Everton recently landed their third signing of the summer when they moved to secure Fabian Delph from Manchester City, in a deal said to be worth up to £10m.

The England international was pushed further down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium after the arrivals of Rodri and Angelino, so his decision to join the Toffees makes sense in that regard.

Delph, 29, has signed a three-year deal and is a fantastic addition for such a small fee. He brings a wealth of experience, versatility and talent to Marco Silva’s side, and Stan Collymore certainly seems to think the Toffees have made a good signing.

Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…

What did he say?

In The Sunday People (21/07, page 55), the former Liverpool man said: “Delph could be very good for the club in the same way Phil Neville was when he joined from Manchester United in 2005. Neville demanded that standards be higher and was a force for good – and Delph will do the same.

“I’d give him the captain’s armband too and tell the rest of them to follow the leader because he will set the tone.”

A ludicrous suggestion

How many new signings go straight into the side and become captain?

It has even been argued that the former Leeds man wouldn’t even get into Silva’s preferred starting XI, so it seems far-fetched to say that Delph should be handed the armband and play a shining role as Collymore seems to think.

There are already players worthy of being captain at Goodison Park. Seamus Coleman has been there for a decade now. Michael Keane has emerged as somewhat of a leader. Coleman is even captain for his country – presumably, handing the armband to a new boy would raise a few eyebrows on Merseyside.

You can appreciate where Collymore is coming from, but to say that he should immediately be appointed captain and the others should ‘follow’ him is doing a disservice to the other key cogs at Everton.

Spurs transfer news: Roma exploring Toby Alderweireld alternatives

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Roma are interested in Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren as they look to explore alternatives to Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld, per Gazzetta dello Sport.

What’s the word?

Roma have been linked with a move for the central defender throughout the summer transfer window.

The £25m release clause in his contract has expired but the Serie A club have not given up on the prospect of acquiring the Belgium international.

Nevertheless, Gazzetta claims that Lovren has emerged as a target.

Indeed, the report says that the Italian giants are confident of reducing his €20m (£18.3m) asking price due to the good relations between the two clubs.

Liverpool, indeed, have signed Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker from the club in recent years.

A major Spurs boost

This could play out perfectly for Spurs.

If Alderweireld’s suitors are looking elsewhere, that raises the prospect of the Belgium international being persuaded to stay.

Of course, his contract expires at the end of next season but suddenly there could be the possibility of the 30-year-old entering into talks over a new deal.

It is no guarantee that he will commit himself to the club but, if he remains after this summer, at the very least there is the opportunity for Spurs to negotiate.

That can only be a good thing for the north London club.

West Brom fans love Ahmed Hegazi recovery video

[ad_pod ]

On Tuesday night, West Bromwich Albion’s official Twitter account posted a video which showed that Ahmed Hegazi was already back in the gym following ankle surgery.

Indeed, the Egypt international only underwent the option last week, but is already very much on the road to recovery.

As expected, the video of the central defender in the gym brought a strong response from the West Brom fans on social media.

It is currently unclear when the 28-year-old will be able to return to help Slaven Bilic’s side.

However, the fact that the defender is already making huge progress has led to a positive reaction from the club’s supporters.

The Baggies are currently preparing for their Championship opener against Nottingham Forest this weekend, which should be a cracking affair.

Manchester City fans criticise Ilkay Gundogan showing

[ad_pod ]

Manchester City fans have criticised midfielder Ilkay Gundogan after his poor showing against Liverpool in the Community Shield.

The Premier League champions won on penalties at Wembley after a 1-1 draw at the national stadium on Sunday.

Gundogan scored City’s first penalty as they lifted the first silverware of the season but he endured a rocky start to his performance after being introduced as a substitute by manager Pep Guardiola.

The Germany international touched the ball a total of 23 times, per WhoScored, and did not make a tackle nor win an aerial duel, while he made just 16 successful passes.

And fans were less than impressed with the 28-year-old’s showing prior to the shootout, despite City’s victory and his goal from the spot, with many feeling that he is not quite up to speed ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Manchester United star Paul Pogba urged to stop trying fancy skills by Dean Saunders

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Wales international Dean Saunders has urged Manchester United star Paul Pogba to stop trying fancy flicks and extravagant passes all the time.

What did he say?

The France World Cup winner has been the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer, but delivered an encouraging performance in United’s first Premier League game of the season against Chelsea.

Now, Saunders has implored Pogba to keep things simple in the middle of the park and choose his moments to showboat.

Watch Manchester United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

He said: “For me, the best players in the world do the simple things well most of the time. The great players in the world, they still do the same thing but occasionally they make you clap.

“Pogba tries to make you clap every time he gets the ball, for me. He’s trying Cruyff turns, trying difficult passes, there’s no doubt he can do it, but there’s got to be times where you should just play one touch, two touch and keep moving the ball across the pitch.”

Taking away Pogba’s game

Telling Pogba to stop trying skills and tricks is easier than done. It takes away everything the 26-year-old is as a midfielder. When United signed the Frenchman back in 2016, there was surely an understanding about the profile of player they were getting. The former Juventus ace isn’t someone who’s going to patrol his defence in front of the back four and lay the ball off to his teammates. He is not a workhorse. He is not Nemanja Matic. He is not Jordan Henderson.

He is however going to be the driving force for his team and the catalyst for their attacks.

One of the criticisms of Pogba’s career at Old Trafford has been the approach some United managers have taken with him. Attempting to try and “shackle” his natural game is making a major mistake. Whilst his display against Chelsea wasn’t without its flaws, his two assists came about because he was willing to embrace the creative responsibility for his side. Pogba can be considered one of the best in the world by being himself, and not becoming something he isn’t.

Manchester City already feeling the effects of Vincent Kompany’s exit

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

When Vincent Kompany’s departure from Manchester City was confirmed, the big question revolved around how the club could ever replace the Belgian’s charismatic presence off the field. The 33-year-old had been there when the Etihad outfit were beginning their emergence into a global force, and presided over multiple Premier League title triumphs. He was truly the symbol of the side’s new era and a worthy ambassador.

But perhaps what Pep Guardiola should have been more concerned about, was his actual effect on the pitch. The defensive lynchpin. Against Tottenham, the centre-back’s absence was worryingly conspicuous.

Watch Manchester City Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Just three minutes after Raheem Sterling had opened the scoring, the visitors hit back through Erik Lamela. Ederson’s positioning in goal was less than great, but what is perhaps just as pertinent, is wondering why the former AS Roma star was given the time and space to unleash that effort.

City’s defence backed off and backed off until the 27-year-old was almost being begged to have a dig. And he duly did.

Then, having worked hard to restore their lead, Guardiola’s men switched off at a corner and allowed Lucas Moura to glance a looping header over Ederson. Substitutions always tend to cause a bit of a chaos in terms of marking, but it is no doubt fair to suggest that Kompany would have taken charge of the situation. In his time at City, the Belgian was a master organiser, pulling teammates here and there, and getting them into the right positions.

Indeed, even forgetting his ability to lead from the back, his sheer defensive skills were a massive miss for the Manchester side on Saturday. City were completely dominant from start to finish, and Guardiola was rightly perplexed after the game at how Spurs’ minimal efforts on goal had translated into an undeserved draw for the away side.

Watch the video below to see the most insane overhead kick you will see this week…

It was the kind of clash Kompany would have relished. Sensing that his side were struggling to put the ball in the back of the net, the veteran would have marshalled his troops and encouraged them to show greater focus defensively.

Instead, two lapses in concentration allowed Mauricio Pochettino’s side to snatch a wholly improbable point. Whilst it may only be the second game of the season, the signs are already there that Kompany’s departure is already beginning to take effect.

Liverpool fans disagree with Pep Guardiola over defender comments

[ad_pod ]

Pep Guardiola has called Aymeric Laporte the best left-sided centre-back in the world, a remark which many Liverpool fans strongly disagree with.

Although not all of them have directly stated it, the reason seems to be fairly obvious, as Virgil van Dijk – the recently crowned UEFA Men’s Player of the Year – plays on the left side of Liverpool’s centre-back partnership.

Both players were included in the 2019 PFA Team of the Year as they helped their side keep 20 and 21 clean sheets in the league respectively.

They have continued where they left off last season and Laporte’s form has earned him his first call-up to the France national team, but despite his progress Liverpool fans still disagree with Guardiola’s verdict on the former Bilbao star.

Indeed, some have reacted humorously to Guardiola’s suggestion, whilst others have called him deluded or simply disagreed.

Aston Villa’s ability to cope with Crystal Palace’s physicality could decide victory

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Aston Villa will be looking to build on their first Premier League win of the season as they face a trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

The west Midlands side endured a rough opening two fixtures, agonisingly losing to Tottenham despite leading the match for 73 minutes before individual errors against Bournemouth left them with far too much to do.

Find out which Premier League stadium has been ranked the worst in the video below…

Roy Hodgson’s men also got off to a bumpy start, drawing with Everton despite them having ten men in the closing stages and losing to Sheffield Untied – but they managed to pull off the shock of the weekend by beating Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Patrick van Aanholt’s 93rd-minute winner came just four minutes after Daniel James thought he had salvaged a point from the match.

But what sort of encounter do we have on our hands this weekend?

On the Chalkboard

It’s going to be an almighty battle for Villa in terms of physicality – one that may swallow up club-record signing Wesley if they use him as a target man.

Scott Dann is averaging 5 aerial duels won per match whilst his defensive partners Martin Kelly and Gary Cahill aren’t too far behind with 2.3 and 2 per game respectively, per WhoScored.

We’ve previously highlighted Wesley’s early struggles with this aspect of the game but having won 5 aerial duels in his last two matches, the tides may be turning.

Watch Aston Villa Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

It would be wise to play to his feet, allowing him to hold the ball up and distribute it about rather than trying to lump it up there as statistically, the Palace defence is going to relish that hugely.

As a team, they are third in the league for aerial battles won with 24 per game which only emphasises the physicality that this fixture may bring. Villa, in comparison, are eighth with 19 per match.

The Eagles are the worst for shots per game with a measly 5.7 a game so don’t expect it to be much of a goalscoring encounter on their part either.

Saying that, if Villa can master their macho backline then they’ll have every chance of gaining three points.

Wesley showed how good he can be with the ball at his feet against Everton. The Brazilian took the ball in his stride delightfully for his opener before holding it up astutely for Villa’s second.

They must use that to their advantage again.
