Ross Taylor has walked away the big winner from the New Zealand awards night in Auckland. He was awarded the Richard Hadlee medal for 2012-13 and 2013-14 – the award recognised performances over both seasons. Women’s captain Suzie Bates also won the women’s international payer of the year for both seasons.Taylor was also named the Test Player of the Year, the ODI Player of the Year and picked up the Redpatch Cup for first-class batting. Fast bowler Tim Southee was given the Winsor Cup for first-class bowling.Taylor has been in fabulous form of late, scoring three consecutive Test hundreds against West Indies last December and following it with two fifties and two hundreds in the ODIs against India.”Ross showed with those three centuries against the Windies that he is well on the way to being our greatest-ever batsman,” NZC chief executive David White said. “And essentially it set the tone for the summer which ended brilliantly with Test and one day-series victories over one of the best sides in the world – India.”Left-arm quick Mitchell McClenaghan won the Twenty20 Player-of-the-Year title for this season. A special presentation was made in honour of Brendon McCullum, to recognise the 302 he scored against India in Wellington – the highest Test score by a New Zealand batsman.

A successful chase of a target in excess of 200 is normally furious, full of power and towering shots. Glenn Maxwell and David Miller did it differently for Punjab. They hit only five sixes – three of those after the 15th over, by which time Punjab were firm favourites – and turned the game during a 115-run stand that was driven by Maxwell’s surgical placement and Miller’s calm supporting act. Chennai were overtaken with seven balls to spare.There were only four notable performers in the game and all of them were overseas players. Maxwell and Miller’s clinical middle-order partnership came after Chennai’s new openers batted as though powered by rocket-fuel. Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith also scored half-centuries and ransacked 123 in 12.4 overs, but their fierce partnership was not the best batting effort on a scorching Abu Dhabi afternoon.Chasing 205, Punjab had slipped to 52 for 3 in 5.1 overs. Three Indian batsmen had been dismissed – Virender Sehwag, Cheteshwar Pujara and Akshar Patel – and the game hinged on how Maxwell, Miller and George Bailey would fare. Not one to waste time, Maxwell countered R Ashwin’s wide-outside-leg line from round the wicket by reverse-swatting his first ball to the point boundary. That set the tone for an innings filled not only by such unorthodoxy – there were several more reverse-sweeps and pulls – but also by textbook drives and perfectly-timed pushes between mid-off and cover.Maxwell’s placement was largely impeccable. Most of his airborne shots were into gaps in the outfield, but two were not and Chennai failed to catch them. On 37, Maxwell reverse-swept Ravindra Jadeja but the top edge was fluffed by Ashish Nehra at short third man, and on 77 the substitute Samuel Badree put down a chance at deep square leg. Miller also had a let-off – on 17, two balls after Maxwell’s first reprieve – but it was a much tougher chance that Faf du Plesiss put down at short cover.Around the time Maxwell passed fifty off his 25th delivery, Miller had scored only a run-a-ball 21. He wasn’t struggling, however. He was playing an excellent second fiddle, turning the strike over and ensuring the pressure didn’t mount though the asking-rate was approaching two a ball.Punjab needed 113 off 60 balls and took 23 runs off the next two overs. The 13th over from spinner Pawan Negi was the turning point, when Maxwell found the leg-side boundary three times and the cover boundary once to take 22 runs off it. The equation had been hacked to 68 off 42 balls, and Chennai suffered a crippling blow in the next over when Dwayne Bravo dived to try and catch a Maxwell reverse-pull – in vain – and went off the field to nurse an injured right shoulder. MS Dhoni had lost a key death bowler. After Maxwell was bowled for 95, Miller stepped up, carting Ravindra Jadeja for two consecutive sixes in the 17th over to ensure Punjab did not trip close to victory.While Chennai were left to rue their poor catching and bowling, they were buoyed by how seamlessly their new openers settled in. In seasons past, the Chennai method has been for the openers to bat within themselves in the first half of the innings, setting up a platform for the power-hitters to launch from. But McCullum and Smith are the power-hitters.Smith played the supporting role – hitting his first six off his 24th delivery in the 10th over – as McCullum ran riot before and after Bailey dropped him on 22. McCullum did not discriminate, treating the less-known Parvinder Awana and the reputed Mitchell Johnson with the same aggression. The ball disappeared into the stands between deep square leg and long-on frequently as Chennai brought up their best Powerplay score in seven seasons – 70 for 0 in six overs.McCullum got to 50 off 30 balls, Chennai reached 100 off 9.3 overs and Smith brought up his half-century off 37 deliveries. McCullum did slow down after his half-century, scoring only 14 off his next 15 balls before his dismissal, and Chennai lost a bit of momentum during this period. Dhoni remedied that soon enough, and when he walked off for 26 off 11 balls, Chennai were favourites. But nobody told Maxwell and Miller.

وكما أوضح الموقع الرسمي أن الخطيب تعرض أكثر من مرة إلى وعكة صحية في الفترة الماضية، كانت آخرها قبل يومين، أثناء تواجده الحالي بمعسكر الفريق، واضطر للتوجه إلى أحد المستشفيات.

وطلب منه الأطباء النمساويون ضرورة معاودة الطبيب الفرنسي الذي يتابع حالته، لأنه يحتاج إلى المزيد من الرعاية الصحية والالتزام بالراحة فترة ليست قصيرة؛ في ظل معاناته من إرهاق ذهني شديد، وحالة دوار تنتابه بين الحين والآخر.

West Indies allrounder Dwayne Smith and New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum sizzled in their first opening partnership for Chennai, making 123 runs in 12.4 overs against Punjab. Smith said he could see a fruitful association in the making. “It was obviously a privilege to play with Tendulkar [for Mumbai] and batting with Baz [McCullum] is fun too,” Smith told IPLT20.com. “I really love what Baz brings to the table. The good thing is that we are very similar batsmen; we both like to hit big and play attacking cricket. We spoke before the game and he told me, ‘Dwayne, if we bat together for 10 overs, the team will be in an excellent position.’ We opened the batting for the first time, but we did play together for Sussex in England. That familiarity helped us construct this partnership today because we know each other’s strengths very well.”Miller wants Sehwag’s ‘courage of conviction’
Virender Sehwag is new to the Punjab team and South Africa batsman David Miller, who was retained by the franchise after his exploits in the 2013 season, wants to learn from one of his “heroes”. “One thing I would really like to imbibe from him is his courage of conviction,” Miller told IPLT20.com. “Over the years, he has been so consistent with the way he approaches his game and prepares for it. He has such strong self-belief that it doesn’t matter what anyone says about his game. He has achieved greatness on his own terms.” The Punjab team is extremely different to the 2013 outfit and Miller said the new atmosphere was exciting. “They say that youth brings fearlessness and enterprising qualities into a team. I think we saw a glimpse of that in the way we pulled off the tough chase [against Chennai],” he said. “It is easier to bond with guys your age, but having said that, we also have players like Sehwag and [George] Bailey, who bring knowledge and experience with them.”Bhatia relishes responsibility at Rajasthan
Rajat Bhatia has been part of the Delhi and Kolkata franchises in previous seasons, but his newest team – Rajasthan – is posing a different challenge, one he is enjoying. The team is full of youngsters, and Bhatia has a senior role to play. “I have to shoulder more responsibility here,” he told IPL20.com. “Rahul (Dravid) bhai told me from the beginning that I have to play the role of the senior and experienced player in this team. I have played all the seasons of the IPL and know some stuff about the Indian players. He told me it was my responsibility to guide the young Indian players in the team and I am trying to do my best in passing on to them whatever I know.”Why Eoin Morgan pulled out of the tournament
Eoin Morgan was one of few England players to find a regular place in franchise rosters but he withdrew from the 2014 auction to try and win a Test spot after Kevin Pietersen was axed from the national team. “I was at the interim stage between applying to go into the IPL auction and the auction itself,” he said. “You are legally bound at that point to go into any contract offered. But with what happened to Kev [Kevin Pietersen] and other positions being in question, I think everybody sees it as a huge opportunity,” he said. “I spent a bit of time thinking about it. Then I had a meeting with Paul Downton (ECB’s managing director) to discuss the possibility of withdrawing from the IPL auction. The ECB worked with the Indian board in getting me withdrawn. That was the purpose of the meeting, not for them to encourage me that there was a place. But we talked about the Test team and that for anyone who scored a lot of runs in county cricket there was a possibility they might be picked and I certainly wanted to throw my hat in the ring.”

The BCB has sold its worldwide media rights for the next six years, until April 2020, to Gazi TV for the price of $20.02 million. The company won the rights after quoting an offer price slightly higher than the $20 million floor price set by the board.Gazi TV became the only contender during the open bid on Friday, after another company, Mediacom, quoted a lower price. BCB president Nazmul Hassan said the board was satisfied with the outcome, as it could have been worse.”There was an open bid this morning after which the board had to take a decision in a meeting,” Hassan said. “There were two participants, one of whom didn’t meet our floor price so they became automatically ineligible. Gazi TV has paid just more than our floor price, and their papers have been okayed. As they have no financial problems, we are giving them this work. BCB will receive from them $20.02 million (net) without production cost.”I don’t look at history, but we are satisfied. We believe that we received [the bid] according to the current market situation. If nobody had taken part in the bid, it would have put us in an embarrassing position.”There were several questions during the press briefing about the Gazi TV’s links with the BCB. Gazi Golam Murtoza, the vice-chairman of Gazi TV, is a BCB director and chairman of the tournament committee. Gazi TV’s chairman, Gazi Golam Dastagir, is also a former BCB director.However, Kazi Inam Ahmed, the BCB’s marketing committee chairman who handled the media rights, said Murtoza had stayed out of any discussion on the media rights.”We want to be clear that, during the entire process our committee worked on, the BCB director who is related to the Gazi family has signed legal papers that said he will not be present during any board meeting where we will discuss the TV rights deal,” Ahmed said. “We have ensured that our process remained transparent, and since everything took place through open bidding, there was no chance of corruption.”The BCB’s last long-term deal was with Nimbus between 2006 and 2012 after which Channel 9, Gazi TV and Masranga TV have been given rights separately for home series since October 2012.
