Embora não tenha colocado Lucca em campo na noite desta quarta-feira, no jogo contra o PSV (HOL), pela Florida Cup, o técnico Fábio Carille diz contar com o atacante que voltou de empréstimo da Ponte Preta. O treinador do Timão ainda revelou que vai rodar o grupo na próxima partida, contra o Rangers (ESC), sábado, às 16h (de Brasília). Contra o PSV, 22 jogadores atuaram (11 no primeiro tempo e 11 no segundo).

– Tive a conversa com ele, sim. Está nos planos, tem contrato, ele sabe disso. No jogo de sábado vai jogar 45 minutos, quero colocar o grupo todo para jogar, ou quase todos – disse Carille, que foi questionado sobre o incômodo de Lucca.

– É bom se sentir incomodado, ele fez um ano maravilhoso em 2017 e faz parte dos planos, sim. Temos uma linha (de prioridade) de jogadores do ano passado, mas ele está sabendo que sábado joga 45 minutos – acrescentou.

Carille ainda analisou a estreia do Corinthians na temporada. A equipe titular atuou o primeiro tempo e fez 1 a 0 no PSV, mas no segundo os reservas levaram o empate. Nos pênaltis, o Timão venceu por 5 a 4. O treinador também falou sobre a escalação da equipe no esquema 4-1-4-1.

– Foi dentro do esperado. Ano passado no segundo turno fiz isso (mudança para o 4-1-4-1) em seis jogos, e a resposta foi muito boa mesmo sem ter treinado muito. Comecei a pré-temporada assim, então no 4-2-3-1 se eu tiver de colocar Maycon e Camacho, já está mais definido. Agora no 4-1-4-1, com meias por dentro, mas não abandono a outra não, segue como opção – afirmou Carille.

O Corinthians volta a treinar nesta quinta-feira em Orlando, nos Estados Unidos. O jogo contra o Rangers será o último do Timão na Florida Cup. A delegação volta no domingo ao Brasil.

Butrather than bemoan his lot, Prior is determined to use his recentomission as an incentive to improve and is adamant he has a one-dayfuture with his country.The England selectors made no secret of the fact they were monitoringKieswetter’s development closely, but the speed of his promotion tothe full side meant that in a matter of two weeks Prior was lookingover his shoulder. Netherlands’ bowling attack stuck to their guns in the early part of the day to reduce the visitors to 61 for 4 before the recovery began, and the lower order finished the day with a lead of 63, with three wickets left.The wickets were shared around, with Mark Jonkman and Adeel Raja picking two apiece, while Berend Westdijk, Peter Borren and Ruud Nijman scalped one each. Raja was getting into his groove, having accounted for Simon Smith and Qasim Sheikh when Berrington began the rescue act. Neil McCallum provided the perfect foil, as they regained ground through patient cricket. Berrington struck nine fours in his 82, and the pair had raised 133 when Borren dismissed him with the first-innings lead in sight. Gregor Maiden who came in next ensured the lead was duly achieved, before McCallum departed having reached his fifty. Matthew Parker worked his way to an unbeaten 28, and his stand with Maiden dispirited the hosts further before Nijman intervened, but the advantage remained well and truly with Scotland at stumps.

Newcastle made a number of additions to their side in the January transfer window and three of them came in defensive positions.

There is no shying away from the fact that the Magpies have been one of the worst teams in the Premier League this season, when it comes to defending their own goal.

Only Norwich (45) have conceded more goals than Newcastle (43) in the division, with Eddie Howe’s side having kept just two clean sheets.

One of the signings they made to improve that record was central defender Dan Burn from Brighton. He has averaged an impressive SofaScore rating of 6.96 in the league, showing that he has the quality to be a top performer at this level. The question now will be over who Howe will partner him with?

The ex-Cherries boss must now unleash Paul Dummett alongside the English giant as a central defensive partnership in the top-flight.

Newcastle’s defensive record suggests that their centre-back pairings so far this term have been far from good enough, which is why it is worth testing out a new duo at the back. The 30-year-old recently returned from injury and has been solid in his two outings at left-back, winning 68% of his duels and making ten tackles and interceptions across the two matches.

Former Magpies centre-back Mike Williamson heaped praise on Dummett last year, saying: 

“He’s so reliable and probably underrated in a lot of people’s eyes. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s good in the air and he’s got good distribution.

“His biggest strength is that he keeps everything simple and just how well he knows his own game.“He has consistently improved since he came into the side and he deserves every reward and piece of credit he receives because he’s a genuine, authentic, humble North East lad.”These comments suggest that he is the type of character Howe needs in a relegation scrap – solid and reliable. His performances at left-back also allude to this and that is why he must be given a chance at centre-back alongside Burn in the defence.

Last season, he largely played as a central defender and averaged a solid SofaScore rating of 6.76. He ended the campaign with a SofaScore rating of 7.0 or higher five times in his last eight appearances, showing that he was delivering top-quality displays in the heart of the defence.

Therefore, his presence alongside Burn could improve Newcastle’s defence and allow them to stop conceding goals at the rate they have been doing this term. The gem deserves a chance to show what he can do and Howe must unleash him alongside the January signing in their next Premier League outing.

Andrés Sanchez, presidente do Corinthians entre 2007 e 2011 e candidato a ocupar o cargo novamente, disse na terça-feira que Dudu tem “a cara” do clube do Parque São Jorge. O atacante do Palmeiras agradece, mas discorda:

– Agradeço a ele pelas palavras, foi um presidente muito competente no Corinthians, mas eu não me vejo nunca com a camisa do Corinthians. Tenho um carinho muito grande pelo Palmeiras, tenho a admiração dos torcedores aqui e nunca vou deixar isso acabar vestindo a camisa do Corinthians – disse o camisa 7 do Verdão, em entrevista que será publicada na íntegra pelo LANCE! na manhã desta quinta-feira.

– Cara, eu sempre tive a cara do Palmeiras. Desde quando jogava nos outros clubes, acho que isso aqui já estava traçado, Deus já tinha reservado isso tudo aqui no Palmeiras.
