In a comprehensive victory away to the young Foxes, David Omilabu, Rob Street and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi all scored braces as they ran riot at the Midlands club’s training facility. Wanya Marcal-Madivadua hit back with a consolation strike for the home side. [cpfc.co.uk].

Summer signing Michael Olise made his first start in Palace colours, playing 60 minutes before being replaced by Nya Kirby.

The victory takes Crystal Palace into seventh position in the Premier League 2 table [Premier League].

In light of this news, it’s little wonder that loads of Crystal Palace diehards took to social media to express their reaction to the “outstanding” result.

Priceless Pietersen shows his willpower

If Kevin Pietersen ever needs another sponsor he could do worse then go to Mastercard. On Friday, he will find out how much he is worth to an IPL franchise, something in the region of US$2 million is expected, but to England he remains priceless

If Kevin Pietersen ever needs another sponsor he could do worse than go to Mastercard. On Friday, he will find out how much he is worth to an IPL franchise, something in the region of US$2 million is expected, but to England he remains priceless. Given the way he has regained his focus after losing the captaincy, it is even difficult to be too harsh for the ungainly sweep that brought his downfall.Without him it’s hard to know where England would have gone on the opening day of the series. Even Pietersen himself was rooted to his crease against the West Indies spinners for much of his innings, but unlike his team-mates there was always a sense he knew what he was doing. He was really ticking by the time he took Sulieman Benn for 14 in three balls to move to 97, but trying to reach his century in the grand manner offered a top-edge to Denesh Ramdin. It’s harsh to criticise Pietersen, he brings so much to the England team, and is such a thrilling batsman to watch, that falling when playing your natural game shouldn’t be a crime. But then there is the match situation to consider, and he rekindled memories of his charge down the pitch to another left-arm spinner, South Africa’s Paul Harris, at Edgbaston last summer when he had played supremely to reach 94.”It’s the way I play, I got to 97 playing that way so it just wasn’t meant to be. No drama,” Pietersen said, although he did then admit two-thirds of his innings were not in his usual style. “On that wicket you have to play situations and I think that’s what I’ve done over the last few years instead of going out there and being dominant.”His battles against Benn added another chapter to his recent duels against left-arm spinners. During the India tour he had his memorable contest with Yuvraj Singh, who dismissed Pietersen in the one-day and Test series. His bravado was severely tested when Yuvraj was brought on in the third over in Mohali with England 2 for 2, but he responded in typical style making 144 and then calling Yuvraj a “pie-chucker”. Benn is much better than that, and for much of the day looked it as he had Pietersen repeatedly prodding uncertainly outside off stump. Each time he marched off for a session break Pietersen wore a serious expression of someone intent on erasing any lingering doubts about his mindset. After tea something clicked and he began to move through his range of shots while also engaging in a touch of eye-balling with Fidel Edwards.Three more runs would have given him back-to-back centuries following his hundred in Mohali and given what has happened in between it would have been another remarkable demonstration of his willpower. An innings of 97 still does that, but when Pietersen gets out playing such a shot there is a lingering feeling of what might have been.”I love scoring runs and I love playing for England,” he said. “If someone had said to me a month ago when everything was kicking off in England that I’d get 97 today I would have said thank you very much.”He did far more than some of his colleagues managed in a top-order display that did nothing to quell the doubts over their productivity. Andrew Strauss was clearly nervous, but there’s no need to panic about a scratchy 7. However, if Alastair Cook produces too many more shots like his pull to mid-on then serious questions will be asked. That then brings us to Ian Bell.Having typically batted so nicely to reach 28 he played for turn when there wasn’t any against Chris Gayle and limply offered the edge. The hang-dog expression which follows so many of his dismissals remained as he trudged off, but he seems unable to do anything to ease the pressure on himself at the moment. It can be a vicious circle; he would no doubt love to just play with complete freedom – and the command of Pietersen – but is battling his inner demons so much that he can’t sustain his concentration.Aside from Pietersen, the batsman who benefited most today was Owais Shah and it’s difficult to believe that he would have become as stuck against the spin with his wristy strokeplay. Paul Collingwood struggled to score during his 61-ball innings – a stay that included the first TV referral involving an England batsman – and fell playing an ugly sweep to give Benn nothing more than he deserved. However, at the end of a tough day England emerged with honours about even, although typically Pietersen saw it in a more positive light. “It is very tough, you can’t play as nicely as you would like to on day one of a Test, but the way the wicket’s playing and a slow outfield I’d say we are pushing 280-300,” he said. “I think we are in a pretty good position, losing five wickets today and knowing that we won’t have to bat last.”First, though, England need to add as many as they can to this total. Like Pietersen, every run will be priceless.

Aston Villa could unearth a new Konsa in Bogarde

In what has undeniably been an exciting 18 months or so as an Aston Villa fan, one of their big success stories since making their return to the Premier League has been the rise of Ezri Konsa.

Dean Smith’s side signed the defender from Brentford in a £12m deal back in the summer of 2019, and he has since then enjoyed a meteoric rise, even getting touted with a potential England call-up.

At just 23, Konsa still has the peak years of his career ahead of him, but when you look at Villa’s academy, Smith could find another player who is remarkably like the former Brentford ace.

Lamare Bogarde joined from Dutch giants Feyenoord just last year and is seemingly already making a big impression behind the scenes at Villa Park.

The Athletic’s Gregg Evans even recently claimed that Villa fought off intense transfer competition from a number of big Premier League rivals, and added: “Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have both taken the hard-working teenager under their wing. They immediately warmed to the bright, polite youngster and recognise his potential. The youngster is calm and composed in possession and likes to play out from the back. “

Speaking after his arrival, academy manager Mark Harrison, raved: “We are delighted to welcome Lamare to the club. He is a player with immense potential and the commitment that will go into fulfilling that starts now.”

Already this season, Bogarde has shown his temperament when it comes to dealing with more senior players, handling himself well in the victory over Wycombe Wanderers in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Writing in his post-match player ratings for The Birmingham Mail, Ashley Preece gave him a seven, saying: “The Dutch youngster is highly thought of at Villa and he did well once again here as he got Appiah out of jail on occasion with a string of brave blocks.”

That ability to recover and help out his teammates, but also be cool, calm and collected in possession, is exactly what Konsa brings to the table when playing alongside Tyrone Mings.

The 6 foot ace looks set to have a bright future in the game, and could well develop into Villa’s next Konsa.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have another exciting academy starlet in this teenager…

Trinidad and Tobago batsman Lendl Simmons is looking forward to his Test debut following his inclusion in the West Indies squad for the second Test against England, starting in Antigua on Friday.Simmons, who has represented West Indies in eight ODIs, demonstrated his aptitude in the longer version of the game with 282 for the A team against England in last month’s tour game in St Kitts. “I am delighted to be called up to the West Indies for the second Test and I am really looking forward to going there and doing my best.”Simmons insisted a return to the West Indies team was always on his mind and now that he has been given the opportunity he will be looking to continue scoring runs. “Well, last season I had my eyes focused on this home series and from the beginning of the season I have been working really hard on getting form and trying to hit my target and my goals,” he said. “I think I did really well at the start of the season and I got an opportunity now and I want to make good use of it.”T&T selector Claude Phillip said he had high hopes for Simmons, who he described as “a good selection” for the second Test against England. Phillip, a former first-class player, said he always had faith in Simmons. He felt Simmons had lifted his game this season and had been able to concentrate a lot more out in the middle.”Simmons did surprise me a lot in terms of his concentration this season,” Phillip said. “I knew he had the ability and the talent, but his problem was being able to concentrate for long periods and to bat for almost two days is a great credit to him,” he said referring to Simmons’ career-best 282.Phillip was disappointed that the West Indies selectors had named the squad for the first Test before the tour match, but said it “had been the policy of the West Indies selectors in the past so it is not different for the present and, as the saying goes, better late than never”. Phillip was hopeful that Simmons would replace Xavier Marshall, who has been dropped for the second Test.”If he [Marshall] can’t open he should not be in the West Indies team because there are too many middle order batsmen around to be persisting with him because he is not a good player of spin bowling and Simmons, if he does not open, could get that spot in place of Marshall.”The second Test begins on February 13 at North Sound, Antigua.

Exclusive: Palmer’s verdict on Bowen’s West Ham future

Former Premier League star Carlton Palmer insists that Jarrod Bowen should stay at West Ham United amid links elsewhere.

The winger has been touted as a potential target for a number of clubs, including Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Bowen has, of course, enjoyed a fine start to the season, with David Moyes’ side competing on multiple fronts after qualifying for the Europa League last term.

The winger has made eight appearances in all competitions and has provided an assist, while also occupying defenders with his pace and trickery.

Bowen is tied to a lengthy contract with the Hammers that runs until 2025 and he is valued at £27m by Transfermarkt.

And Palmer thinks that Bowen would be best served by remaining in east London as he looks to take the next step and reach a level befitting a move to an elite club.

He said: “When you’ve got players that are doing well, obviously clubs are going to be interested. That’s par for the course. But where does Jarrod go? He’s playing at West Ham, they’re a top-six side, so the only place he’s going to go, if you go off last season, you’re looking at Man City, Liverpool, Man United, Leicester City, there’s your top five clubs, so where’s he going to go?

“And you’re playing week in, week out at West Ham. For me, I think you sit tight. You sit tight, you’re playing football, carry on doing what you’re doing. He’s 24, he’s a young player, just carry on getting the experience and playing. When you leave to go to a big club, you need to play, you don’t leave to go and sit on the bench.

“That’s what you should never do. So he just carries on playing at West Ham. They had a fantastic season last season, they’ve started well this season, there’s no need to be thinking about a move.”

In total, Bowen has made 61 appearances for the Hammers, scoring nine goals and laying on 11 assists.

As histórias do novo reforço do Verdão

Nós guardamos tudo a sete chaves.

Ele vai agregar muito no time do Palmeiras.

No entanto, o talento do ataque poderia estar hoje no gol.

– Deyverson era goleiro no time amador do nosso pai, no Rio, o Associação Esportiva Social e Cultural Mamaô.
