West Brom dealt Callum Robinson injury blow

West Bromwich Albion have been dealt an injury blow ahead of their upcoming Championship fixture.

What’s the latest?

In a statement posted on the West Brom Twitter account, Albion revealed that Callum Robinson will be unavailable for selection for the club’s trip to Peterborough United on Saturday evening, as he is currently self-isolating after falling ill.

Further reports claim that the forward will also be ruled out of the Republic of Ireland’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Portugal and Azerbaijan, and may also miss the fixture against Serbia, depending on the speed of his recovery.

Ismael will be gutted

Considering just how impressive Robinson has been for West Brom so far this season, the fact the 26-year-old will miss the club’s clash with Peterborough United is sure to have left Valerien Ismael gutted.

Indeed, over his four Championship appearances so far this term, the £5.4m-rated man has scored three goals, registered one assist and created one big chance for his teammates, as well as taking an average of three shots and making one key pass per game.

These returns have seen the forward average a rather remarkable SofaScore match rating of 7.42, ranking him as the Frenchman’s third-best performer in the second tier of English football.

As such, it is undeniable that Robinson will be a big miss on Saturday, although, with Albion having recently signed Jordan Hugill from Norwich City on a season-long loan deal, perhaps the former Sheffield United man’s absence will present Ismael with the opportunity to hand the centre-forward his West Brom debut.

Furthermore, with an international break following Saturday’s fixture, Robinson could well be in line for a return to the starting XI for the visit of Millwall on September 11, all being well with his recovery.

However, despite the positives, Ismael will nevertheless have to make do without Robinson for the Posh game, something that will undoubtedly cause a blow to Albion’s chances of securing a positive result from the fixture.

Shoaib's hearing postponed until October 24

A Lahore court has postponed a hearing into Shoaib Akhtar’s pending fine until October 24

Cricinfo staff17-Oct-2008A Lahore court has postponed a hearing into Shoaib Akhtar’s pending fine until October 24.”The judge was not available today and the new date is set for October 24,” Tafazzul Rizvi, the PCB’s lawyer, said. The Pakistan board is seeking a ruling from Lahore High Court judge Sayed Zahid Hussain on whether Shoaib is eligible to play in or for Pakistan without paying an outstanding fine of Rs 7 million (approx US$105,000) for his criticism of not being awarded a central contract. Despite the pending court decision, the PCB allowed Shoaib to compete in the four-nation Twenty20 tournament in Canada last week in “national interest.”The PCB had sought a ruling from the court on whether Shoaib was eligible to play domestic and international cricket without paying the fine. The board hit Shoaib, 33, with the punishment earlier this year after he criticised the PCB over its failure to award him a central contract. He was initially banned by the PCB for five years, but the sentence was subsequently suspended pending a final decision by the Lahore High Court.

Volante do Sport sofre lesão na coxa e desfalca time diante do São Paulo

Chelsea: Emerson Palmieri move to Lyon "amazing"

Get French Football News features writer Adam White thinks that Emerson Palmieri joining Ligue 1 side Lyon from Chelsea is a great deal.

The full-back saw his game time limited at Stamford Bridge as he has fallen down the pecking order behind both Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI, before his move to the French club was announced later last month.

The Italian international featured for Italy at Euro 2020 in four games, including the final against England, with Emerson adding a Euros winners medal to his collection. This goes with his Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup winners’ medals.

Adam White believes Emerson is a good signing for Lyon, telling Football FanCast: “It’s a good signing, I think. It’s amazing that an Italian international who played at the Euros is third choice at Chelsea at left-back as there’s two guys in front of him

“It’s quite amazing and I think for that reason he’s a solid player as he’s proven for Italy,05 and he’s a good fit at Lyon.”

Journalist Fabrizio Romano also reported that Chelsea are still working to sell Emerson Palmieri, with Lyon talks progressing but Napoli hope that Emerson waits for their proposal in the coming days.

Sarah Edwards helped deliver the series to Australia with a career-best 96 that set up a convincing 54-run victory over India at North Sydney Oval. India were set 224 to win and a four-wicket haul from Lisa Sthalekar ensured the visitors never looked like reaching the target and Australia will now head into the remaining two matches with an unassailable 3-0 lead.Edwards was given a promotion to No. 3 and made the most of the opportunity with her first ODI half-century. She combined with Leah Poulton (32) for a 36-run partnership that gave Australia a solid start but it was the work of Edwards and Jodie Fields that really turned the heat on India.Their 114-run fifth-wicket stand was a record for Australia against India and their stability helped the side lift the run-rate to seven an over for the second half of the innings. Fields struck one six and scored at nearly a run a ball in her 54 before she departed in the second-last over.Edwards was searching for a maiden century in the 50th over when she finally departed, caught off the bowling of Nooshin Al Khadeer. But Australia’s 6 for 223 – their highest total of the series – was always going to challenge India and a stifling ten-over spell of 4 for 20 from Sthalekar ended any hope of the tourists keeping the series alive.Amita Sharma made an entertaining unbeaten 34 towards the end to push India up to 7 for 169 but it was just window-dressing for a side that had slumped to 4 for 73 in the 27th over. The series now heads to Canberra for the final two matches on Saturday and Sunday and Australia will be seeking a clean sweep. They will enter the games confident in a batting line-up that is in solid form. Edwards said she had relished the chance to get out to the crease earlier than usual.”It was great to get an opportunity batting higher up the order today,” Edwards said. “I’ve been playing a middle order for a role in bits and pieces, so to get an opportunity at No. 3 and get set and bat through is really good.”Jodie [Fields] is fantastic to bat with. She comes in and rotates the strike straight away and controls what the bowlers are doing, so it was great to work with her and put a big partnership together. It would have been so good to get my first hundred but we had to hit out in the last over and I was feeling very tired at that stage.”

Aamer Sohail, the former Pakistan captain and opener, has been appointed director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), replacing Mudassar Nazar who left for a coaching post with the ICC last month. The decision was taken by the PCB’s governing board who met today for the first time under the chairmanship of Ijaz Butt. Sohail had been widely touted to pick up a key role in the current administration, though many had thought he would resurrect his role as chief selector again. He first held that position in 2003.”I think it is a challenging role,” Sohail told Cricinfo. “But it is one I am really looking forward to. Over the last few years we have trained so many coaches at the NCA – about 250 of them – and we don’t have enough players for that number. The challenge is to strike a balance so that coaches are working in the right areas with players.”A mild controversy had broken out over the post last week when Salim Malik claimed he had been offered the post. That was later denied by the board. No decision was taken at the meeting on the new selection committee; currently Saleem Jaffar heads an interim committee which includes Ijaz Ahmed and Shoaib Mohammad as members. Ijaz, however, is said to be in line for a more senior role, possibly as fielding coach for the national side. But the board has welcomed back Wasim Bari, the former wicketkeeper and chief selector, into the fold, appointing him director of human resources and administration. Salim Altaf’s redesignation to chief operating officer – taking over from Shafqat Naghmi – was also approved at the meeting.
