Spurs can hit gold by selling "incredible" star worth more than Kolo Muani

Tottenham Hotspur’s frontline has been massively bolstered throughout the summer transfer window, with Thomas Frank wanting to improve the options at his disposal.

The Dane made a beeline to improve such an area of his first-team squad, something which has been achieved during his first summer in the role in North London.

He’s added Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons to the attacking third of the pitch, with both talents offering top-level quality and versatility to the current squad.

Whilst they cost a combined £107m between them, their deals were excellent pieces of business and signals of intent from owner Daniel Levy to help build on the Europa League success last campaign.

The aforementioned duo aren’t the only players who made the move to the Premier League this summer, as the hierarchy also completed a last-minute deal for another talented attacker.

Kolo Muani’s last-minute move to join Spurs this summer

On deadline day, Spurs were on the hunt to land another attacker, after Heung-min Son ended his decade-long spell at the club to join MLS side LAFC.

Savinho was seen as a constant option all window long, but despite having a keen interest in his signature before the market closed, the Brazilian stayed put at Manchester City.

Manchester City'sSavinhoin action with Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister

As a result, a deal was agreed to sign PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani, with the Frenchman joining Frank’s side on a season-long loan – but with no option to buy.

It was reported that a €5m (£4.3m) loan fee was forked out for the 26-year-old’s signature, fending off late interest from Serie A side for Juventus for his services.

Like Kudus and Simons, the loanee can play off either flank, or even in a centre-forward role, adding to the depth that the new manager has craved.

The Spurs player valued higher than Kolo Muani

In the opening three games of the 2025/26 campaign, Frank has shown huge faith in striker Richarlison to lead the line for Spurs in their quest for added success.

The Brazilian has started all three of the league outings, scoring twice and registering an assist, potentially nailing down the number nine position as his own – despite huge rumours about a departure earlier in the summer.

A deal for Kolo Muani will only add further competition in the final third, pushing Richarlison for the starting spot – offering the Lilywhites a new batch of healthy competition.

However, another player who is currently at Frank’s disposal is fellow Frenchman Mathys Tel, who has made his move to the club permanent this summer after spending the second half of last year on loan in North London.

The 20-year-old scored three times in his 20 appearances during the Ange Postecoglou tenure, with owner Levy deciding to fork out £29m for his signature this window.

Tel has already found minutes hard to come by since Frank took charge, only making two substitute appearances, totalling just 19 minutes in the Premier League.

However, his misery has been compounded over the last couple of days, after it was confirmed the Frenchman had been left out of the Lilywhites’ Champions League squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

Despite his lack of action, Tel, who’s been labelled “incredible” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has still seen his market value soar since making the move to England.

He’s now valued at £43m by FootballTransfers, a figure that is nearly £15m than compatriot Kolo Muani, who’s still only valued at £28.7m despite his own move to join the Lilywhites.

Kolo Muani is likely to be an exciting addition to Frank’s side this campaign – especially if the PSG loanee can replicate his form from his temporary stint in Italy last season.

However, the same can’t be said for Tel, with his future almost certainly coming into question after his snub from the recent European squad – which could see the board make a quick profit on his signature in the months ahead, should the player want to depart the club.

Rohit hits the nets for fitness check before RCB clash

The opener had missed MI’s previous outing against LSG after being hit on the knee in the lead up to the game

S Sudarshanan06-Apr-20250:26

Jayawardene provides an update on Bumrah and Rohit’s availability

Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma’s participated in Sunday’s net session, in a bid to be fit for their next game, at home against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday. Rohit had missed MI’s previous game, against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after being hit on the knee in the lead up to the match.Rohit was among the first batters to walk in for nets on Sunday. He batted for half an hour with MI opener Ryan Rickelton. They faced a strong set of bowlers in the returning Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Mitchell Santer and Karn Sharma. He stood cross-legged at the back when Rickelton took strike and hit a few shots. One of those straight hits got a nod in approval from Rohit. While batters in his net and the adjacent net played big shots, Rohit was keen to get bat to ball. He was consciously trying to middle his shots, which were mere pushes off the front and the back foot. He also edged one Bumrah length ball towards where the slips usually stand. He looked at his bat to gather focus and did not react to Bumrah, who had a long follow-through after that. Rohit continued to bat in rotation with Rickelton before walking off and sat behind MI’s nets for most of the training session. He was not in any visible discomfort and is likely to replace Raj Bawa from the previous game, possibly as an Impact Player.Related

Rohit misses MI's away game against LSG with injury

“Ro [Rohit] looks good, he’s going to bat today as well,” MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene said before the nets session on Sunday. “Rohit had an unfortunate impact on his leg while batting so he felt uncomfortable. We were travelling yesterday. He’ll have a hit today and then we will do an assessment on that.”Rohit had played MI’s first three games for scores of only 13, 8 and 0 before missing the away fixture in Lucknow. In his previous game, against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rohit came in as an Impact Player and scored 13 as MI chased down 117 for an eight-wicket win.”He had a couple of hits, he’s batting well in the nets,” Jayawardene said when asked about Rohit’s form. “If you’re telling me every two innings to look at someone’s performance, it’s a bit unfair. My memory of his last innings was the Champions Trophy winning knock. So we have to give and back the experienced guys, and them coming to the party. We’ve always, as Mumbai, backed the core group to deliver for us so we’re going to do that. It was unfortunate that he got hit in the nets and hopefully he’ll be 100% and that’s how we will continue to back the guys to get the results for us.”Rohit Sharma batted at the Wankhede nets on Sunday evening•Mumbai Indians

‘Tilak will walk in here tomorrow and win the match for us’One of the major talking points from MI’s last game was retiring out Tilak Varma in the chase of 204. When Tilak struggled to 25 off 23 balls and MI needed 24 to win from seven balls, Jayawardene decided to retire him out, although MI went on to lose the game with captain Hardik Pandya and Mitchell Santner in the middle.”The modern age is much more tactical, and we’ll keep changing batting line-ups to match up certain bowling line-ups and all that,” Jayawardene explained on Sunday. “So I don’t see how different that is. As a batsman I’ve had times where you go to bat and struggle to get through and they bowl well to you, it’s a combination of that. And he batted very well for us in the last three games, in tough situations like we’ve lost wickets early and he built those partnerships, and got us to situations that we need to.”So that’s what his role is with that experience that he brings to the game and I still value that. He was trying and he wasn’t able to get going. So I just felt that it was my decision and to throw someone else to get those two hits and Mitch had done that in the last few games, he was in decent form. We needed two hits to get to that 15 or 20 runs in that last over. So it had nothing to do with Tilak and I’m sure he’ll walk in here tomorrow and win the match for us. That’s who Tilak is for us and there’s a lot of value for him.”MI have won only that one game so far against KKR and lost all their away matches. They are currently eighth on the points table. MI will hit the road again after Monday to play Delhi Capitals in Delhi before returning home to host Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Worse call than Luiz: Ange got it so wrong with 6/10 Nottingham Forest man

Regardless of the result in Seville last night, Nottingham Forest supporters will have endured a night full of memories – one that would’ve been unthinkable just a handful of years ago.

Ange Postecoglou’s side claimed a 2-2 draw against Spanish side Real Betis, but some form of disappointment will be felt after failing to hold onto the victory.

Cedric Bakambu put the hosts ahead, but Igor Jesus’ quick-fire double within a couple of minutes put the Reds 2-1 up heading into the half-time break.

It looked as though Forest could hold on for an iconic first game back in Europe for 30 years, but it wasn’t to be as Antony fired in a late equaliser to steal a point.

Whilst the Reds were unable to claim all three points, the first 45-minute showing was one of the club’s best in many years, with numerous players catching the eye during such a period.

Douglas Luiz’s stats for Forest against Real Betis

After starting back-to-back games for the first time, Douglas Luiz was handed a third start in a row for Forest last night – once again producing a sensational display at the heart of the side.

The Brazilian operated alongside Elliot Anderson and Ibrahim Sangare in the middle of the park, with the trio dominating the Spanish outfit during the first half of the meeting.

The 27-year-old completed 88% of the passes he attempted, whilst also achieving a 100% cross completion rate – showcasing the impressive nature he produced with the ball at his feet.

His cross came in the 23rd minute, with his perfectly placed cross landing on the head of Jesus, who managed to double his tally just five minutes after netting his first.

Without the ball, Luiz was just as impressive for Postecoglou’s side, making two recoveries and winning two ground duels – in what was a superb all-round showing.

However, to the surprise of many, the former Aston Villa star was replaced at halftime, subsequently being replaced by winger Dilane Bakwa for the second half of the clash with Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

It was confirmed after the game that the midfielder was replaced as a precaution, but the decision to sub on one player was arguably a bigger mistake than taking the Brazilian off.

The Forest player who failed to impress against Real Betis

The clash against Betis last night has given a generation of supporters the chance to experience the European days that will have been spoken about by loved ones before them.

For years, the club have been languishing in the Championship, but the rise has been remarkable, with huge credit needing to go in the direction of owner Evangelos Marinakis for his constant funding and ambition.

Such ambition was highlighted during the summer transfer window, with the Greek businessman dropping over £200m on new additions to help create a squad capable of competing in the Europa League.

Squad depth is something that is huge for European competition, not to mention the Premier League – with the Reds desperately needing to be competitive on all fronts in 2025/26.

Such rapid success has seen big money being spent by the board, subsequently completing the £26m transfer of French forward Arnaud Kalimuendo late on in the window.

The 23-year-old is yet to start a single game for the Reds, but has made numerous substitute appearances – even coming off the bench in the 64th minute last night.

However, after replacing goalscorer Jesus, he was always going to have a huge task on his hands, something which he ultimately failed to live up to in Seville.

Kalimuendo featured for just 26 minutes, only registering 13 touches of the ball, but ironically, it was his failure to bring the ball under his spell which saw him squander a key chance to kill the game off.

He also only completed a total of five passes, losing possession six times – showcasing his lack of positive impact after having the trust shown in him by Ange to add the finishing touches to the performance.

The Frenchman also got dominated by the Spanish backline, subsequently losing 100% of the duels he entered, with Ange making a huge mistake in not keeping Jesus on the pitch.

To top off Kalimuendo’s dismal outing, he was subsequently handed a 6/10 match rating by Nottingham Post journalist Sarah Clapson – further highlighting his lack of impact.

There’s no denying he’s a hugely talented player with a huge future, but ultimately it was the wrong decision to bring the youngster on – with a more bruising focal point needed to see out the narrow win.

However, he will still have a huge role to play in the months ahead, with the Reds having to negotiate a contested fixture schedule in Europe and domestically heading into the new year.

The main focus will be on Luiz, with real hope that the Brazilian’s injury isn’t too serious to allow him to continue his excellent form against Sunderland on Saturday night.

Kagiso Rabada cleared to play again after serving doping suspension

He will be available for South Africa for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia next month

South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has served a one-month ban, commuted from three months, for drug use during the SA20 earlier this year.A statement issued by the South African Institute for Drug Free Sports (SAIDS) confirmed Rabada had failed a doping test on January 21, after the match between MI Cape Town and Durban Super Giants, and he was notified of the result on April 1 when he was in India for IPL 2025. On April 3, his IPL franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) said Rabada had returned to South Africa for personal reasons after playing only two matches this season.According to SAIDS, Rabada has since participated in an education and awareness programme to prevent further substance abuse. He can resume playing immediately and could return to action as soon as Tuesday, when GT play Mumbai Indians (MI).Rabada’s sanction is in line with the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) punishment for use of a recreational drug – including cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine or diamorphine. A similar punishment was handed to New Zealand’s Doug Bracewell last year after he tested positive for cocaine during the Super Smash.Related

Kagiso Rabada returns home from IPL 2025 for personal reasons

However, there are instances of longer suspensions, which are up to individual boards. Last year, Zimbabwe’s Wessly Madhevere and Brandon Mavuta were banned from playing for four months each and fined 50% of their salaries for three months after testing positive for a recreational drug. In that instance, Zimbabwe Cricket chose to impose a sanction longer than the WADA recommendations. It is not expected that Cricket South Africa will impose further punishment on Rabada after it issued a statement on Saturday afternoon calling the incident “regrettable”. CSA is satisfied with Rabada’s “commitment to upholding professional standards” after he apologised through the South African Cricketers’ Association when news of his positive drug test broke at the weekend.”I am deeply sorry to all those that I have let down,” Rabada said. “I will never take the privilege of playing cricket for granted. This privilege is much larger than me. It goes beyond my personal aspirations.”With the matter considered closed, Rabada will be available for South Africa for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia next month, where he is crucial to their chances. Rabada was South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in the 2023-2025 WTC cycle with 47 wickets at an average of 19.97.However, not everyone considers the case to be as open and shut as CSA.Kagiso Rabada had left the IPL after playing just two games for Gujarat Titans•IPL

Speaking to SEN Radio, former Australia captain Tim Paine was critical of the statement initially issued by GT to explain Rabada’s absence from the IPL.”It stinks. I don’t like this use around ‘personal issues’, and it being used to hide stuff that isn’t a personal issue,” Paine told SEN Radio on Monday. “If you have a professional sportsman that’s tested for recreational drugs during a tournament in which he is playing, that doesn’t fall under personal issues for me. That falls under you have broken your contract.”That is not a personal issue, that is something that is happening in your personal life. Taking drugs – recreational or performance enhancing – is not a personal issue that can just be hidden for a month. A guy can be taken out of the IPL, moved back to South Africa, and we just let it slide under the rug. Then we will bring him back once he’s already served his ban.”ESPNcricinfo contacted CSA and SACA officials multiple times after Rabada returned home from the IPL and were told he was dealing with a “personal issue”, while some officials claimed not to know anything about why he had come home.

Ten Hag sold Man Utd talent for just £10m, now he's outperforming Bruno

Manchester United have endured a dismal time on the pitch as of late, as seen by their unacceptable 15th-place finish in the Premier League back in 2024/25.

The hierarchy’s answer to such a year was to splash yet more cash in the transfer window, with Ruben Amorim handed over £200m to make the additions he desired.

The recent window has now seen the Red Devils hierarchy spend upwards of £800m since the summer of 2022, with the club only having an FA Cup and Carabao Cup to show for it.

After the first six games of the new campaign, the club have once again failed to deliver, currently sitting in a measly 15th place once again – with Amorim’s side losing nine of their last 15 league matches.

Big money additions like Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have all been added to the squad, but the £200m trio have so far only notched two top-flight goals between them.

Big-money additions don’t necessarily equal immediate success, but one of their previous mammoth additions has proven his worth over the last few years.

Why Bruno has been United’s talisman in recent years

Given the failures of United on the pitch last season, it no doubt made it hugely tricky for any player to produce their best performance levels to help get the side out of trouble.

However, it didn’t stop Bruno Fernandes from thriving for the Red Devils, with the midfielder producing one of the best campaigns of his professional career.

The Portuguese international ended 2024/25 with a total of 37 combined goals and assists, by far and away the most of any player in the first-team squad.

However, despite his impressive form last year, the 30-year-old has struggled to match such heights in the opening weeks of the new campaign – only being able to score twice in his first six outings.

He’s usually been Mr Reliable from the penalty spot during his five-year spell at Old Trafford, but he’s already racked up two misses from the spot – with the most recent costing Amorim’s side a point against Brentford.

Bruno, who’s the manager’s captain of choice, is still a phenomenal talent, but it’s clear that he’s lacking huge amounts of confidence at present – along with the rest of the first team squad.

However, the same can’t be said for one former player, who has managed to take his career to the next level after departing the Red Devils a number of years ago.

The former United star who’s outperforming Bruno

Players leaving United and furthering their careers is nothing new to the fanbase, with numerous talents reaching the next level in their development after departing.

Anthony Elanga is arguably the biggest example in recent years, leaving in a £15m transfer to join Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023 after emerging through the ranks at Old Trafford.

The Swede managed 82 appearances at the City Ground, scoring 11 and registering 21 assists – before completing a big-money move to join Newcastle United this summer.

He cost a fee in the region of £60m, with the Red Devils selling him for a quarter of the price he generated for Evangelos Marinakis’ side during the off-season.

However, he’s not alone in such an aspect, with Brazilian star Andreas Pereira another talent who has managed to thrive with regular minutes away from the Theatre of Dreams.

He spent nearly a decade as a Red Devil, racking up 75 senior appearances in the process, but many of which were off the substitutes bench – leading to limited first-team action.

As a result, he left in a £10m deal to join Fulham in the summer of 2022, spending three years at Craven Cottage and finally thriving in England’s top-flight.

The 29-year-old racked up 10 goals and 19 assists in his 110 outings for Marco Silva’s men, leading to one analyst labelling the Brazilian international as “sensational”.

However, Pereira has once again been on the move this summer, leaving the Cottagers and joining Brazilian outfit Palmeiras – allowing him to return to his homeland.

He may have only played four games for his new club, but it has not stopped him from having an immediate impact – already scoring twice and registering a further assist.

Such a tally of three goal contributions is higher than that of Fernandes, with the Portuguese international missing the chance to outperform him with his two penalty misses.

Given the issues United have had in the middle of the park over recent months, there’s no reason as to why Pereira wouldn’t have been able to play a key role had he not been sold.

However, his story at the Red Devils will always finish with a what if, given his bargain departure a few years ago – with the Brazilian yet another player who got away from their grasp far too soon.

Lewis Gregory led from the front with a brilliant 89 not out as Somerset completed a five-wicket Rothesay County Championship Division One win over Sussex at the Cooper Associates Ground, Taunton.Set just 150 to win on a benign pitch, the hosts reached their target in an additional half hour to the scheduled day’s play, skipper Gregory taking advantage of his new position as opener to hit 12 fours in a sparkling 118-ball innings.Earlier, an unbeaten 82 off 164 balls from John Simpson had helped Sussex extend their second innings total from an overnight 127 for 4 to 335 all out. Fynn Hudson-Prentice contributed 41 and James Coles 39, while Jack Leach finished with 4 for 51.It didn’t prove enough and Somerset took 21 points from a second successive Championship victory, while their opponents had to be content with three.Sussex hopes of a fightback were dealt an early blow when Craig Overton struck with his first delivery of the day at the start of the second over. Tom Alsop, playing defensively, edged a low catch to Gregory at first slip. Almost immediately it was 129 for 6 as James Coles called for a single to midwicket to get off the mark and James Hayes was run out by Tom Banton’s direct hit at the wicketkeeper’s end.Coles soon began to time the ball sweetly. He and Simpson held up the home side’s victory bid with a stand of 66, both looking to play positively on a now flat wicket. Coles had struck six fours when attempting another attacking shot off Leach and driving in the air to Tom Lammonby at mid-off. At 195 for 7, his side led by just nine runs.Simpson looked untroubled and found another partner in good touch as Hudson-Prentice helped take the total to 224 for 7 at lunch. More Sussex resistance followed the interval, aided by the rare sight of Overton dropping Hudson-Prentice at second slip off Leach. With 27 runs added, the second new ball was taken.A pulled four off Henry took Simpson to a half-century off 126 balls. It was the sixth boundary of an innings that was starting to frustrate the Somerset bowlers. When Hudson-Prentice smacked Henry for six over the short boundary on the town side of the ground, the lead had grown to 87.The shot provoked quick revenge from the New Zealand seamer who with the next delivery sent Hudson-Prentice’s off stump flying to end a partnership of 78, which had occupied 28 overs. Henry soon followed up by having Nathan McAndrew caught behind after moving briskly to 16. Still Simpson refused to buckle and with last man Ollie Robinson at the other end, he went on the attack.Robinson also played aggressively in a last-wicket stand of 44 before being caught at slip for 18 pushing forward to Leach. Tea was taken with 35 overs left in the day’s play. There were early scares for the hosts when Gregory edged the second delivery of their second innings from Robinson to first slip, only to be reprieved by a no-ball call, and Josh Davey was dropped by in the slips off McAndrew.Davey soon fell to Robinson, bowled by a full delivery, and it was 11 for 2 when Lammonby was lbw to the same bowler falling across his stumps. That became 30 for 3 as James Rew uncharacteristically chased a wide ball from McAndrew and edged through to Simpson. There was tension aplenty as Tom Abell took 25 balls to get off the mark before a square cut for four off Hudson-Prentice. But Gregory was proving a calming influence and when he moved to a confident half-century off 73 balls, with six fours, Somerset were more than halfway to their target.Left-arm spinner Coles removed Abell for 27 and Tom Banton for 15, but Gregory saw his side home, striking three boundaries in an over from Jack Carson before deservedly hitting the winning run.
