Ashwell Prince on being a player of colour in the South Africa team: 'It was a lonely place'

“A person knows when they are welcome, and you know when you are unwelcome”

A lack of will to engage with South Africa’s segregated past has resulted in continued devaluing of the experiences of players of colour, according to Ashwell Prince. Speaking at Cricket South Africa’s Social Justice and Nation-Building Hearings, Prince said he felt unwelcome throughout his nine years in the national team, was labelled a “quota player” by his team-mates on several occasions, and experienced racism in the dressing room. He is not convinced the issues have been resolved to this day.Prince last played for South Africa in 2011 and detailed how the national team had an opportunity in that year to discuss their diverse backgrounds but rejected it, something that he feels has repercussions on the team dynamic today. “In 2011, we had a culture camp and they wanted some topics for us to discuss. They wanted us to be open and honest because we were going to be a team, so we needed to be open and honest with each other,” Prince said.Related

“One player suggested: ‘can we talk about the history of our country? Things like Apartheid, the Group Areas Act (a piece of legislation which stipulated where people from different race groups could live), and forced removals? Can we try and dig into how these things affected our lives and try and establish what impact it had on our parents and on ourselves? This was what one of the non-white players wanted to talk about and it was shut down immediately. The answer was, ‘No, we can’t talk about that. We don’t think that should be discussed in this environment.’ So we didn’t have a discussion. Now, today people don’t want to take a knee. Maybe had we discussed this in 2011, and people had realised the suffering non-white people had in this country, it would be much easier to take the knee. But no, we don’t want to talk about that.”While that incident came towards the end of Prince’s career – he went on to be dropped via email after the Boxing Day Test against Sri Lanka – he narrated a series of stories from his debut in 2002, which made him feel othered. Prince said he was labelled a “quota player” by the media when he was picked to play against Australia, after scoring 92 for the South Africa A team to push his claim for a place. Once in the squad, he felt immediately isolated.”There was no welcome from the coach. There was no (sense of) let’s make this guy comfortable,” Prince said. “It was a lonely place. A person knows when they are welcome, and you know when you are unwelcome. You can get a sense of whether people want you here or don’t want you here. It would have been nice for people to back you. You saw it happening to other guys your age, your peers. You saw it happening to a new player if he was white but it wasn’t happening if the player wasn’t white.”Despite that, Prince “was on a mission” to prove that “from my background, people were good enough.” Having not been to an elite school and with his formative years in the non-racial South African Council on Sport (SACOS) structures, Prince said he “regarded my career as a war. I would lose small battles in the war but I was going to be there for the duration.”However, Prince quickly saw he was in for an almighty fight, not just against perception, but against the people in his own change room. “In the 2006-07 season, we were playing a day-night match in Durban and a fight broke out on the grass banks. Most of the people were Indians,” he said. “Some of the comments in the dressing room astounded me. There were remarks made like, “Typical f****** charous (a derogatory word for South Africans of Indian heritage), can’t behave themselves, drinking cheap liquor and can’t behave.” My wife is Indian. We had one of the greatest managers, who we all respected, in Goolam Rajah, who was Indian. For people to use that terminology in the dressing room and think it was okay astounded me.”A few days later, in a team meeting, Prince took on his team-mates. “I was by no means an established player but I said I had something to say and I said: ‘This is the national team, surely we can’t use this language?’ Everyone was taken aback,” he said. His ODI career did not last much beyond that. He was axed after the 2007 World Cup, where South Africa lost in the semi-finals to Australia, and returned home to infighting that Prince said took on racial tones. “When we returned home, CSA decided to have an inquiry as to what happened,” he said. “We were in a hotel: the players, team management and senior officials from CSA and some younger players. Some questions were asked (about what went wrong) and there was silence in the room. After that one of the players broke out and said: “The problem we have is the quota system.” And one or two others gained confidence and latched on to that so it became that that was the problem in our cricket: the non-white players are the problem. People were talking and five or six players said the same thing.”I had reached a point where I didn’t care if I didn’t play another game, I was going to have my say. I said that we were blown away by a superior team in the semi-finals. If people just said that, we could have left that room and no dramas. Instead, people fell out badly. I said: ‘Guys if I wasn’t supposed to play, then tell me. Look me in the face and say I was not supposed to play. Don’t say the quota system is the problem.’ Nobody was brave enough to say who shouldn’t be there. When things went wrong it was the quota players’ fault. When things went right, the others were the heroes. As long as I played for the national team, that was not a team. We were never one.”Prince and the other players of colour in the squad were so offended by the suggestion that they were responsible for South Africa’s underperformance, “we said if you think the team lost because of quotas, maybe we should scrap the quota system,” he said. “We were firm believers that we deserved to be in the team.”Prince described his county stint with Lancashire as more enjoyable than his time with the national team•PA Photos

Their assertion was leaked in the national newspaper, which led to Prince resigning as the South African Cricketers’ Association president. “I feel betrayed,” he said. “You were supposed to be living your dream but it was anything but a dream, It was an absolute nightmare. I played cricket by giving every inch for my teammates and I didn’t feel that was happening the other way around.”Though Prince did not play ODI cricket after, he remained part of the Test team until he broke his thumb in Australia and was replaced by JP Duminy. Despite the policy that a recovered incumbent would get their place back, Duminy’s stand-out performances in the 2008-09 series and the team balance at the time meant Prince did not find a way back until he opened the batting in the return series against Australia at home in March 2009, and not everyone was happy to have him back.”There was a franchise match before the third Test match and I was opening the batting. We had four or five Titans come in and try to intimidate me and having lots of words at the end of every over. It soon broke out to three players in particular who had words to say and they called me a quota player,” Prince said. “I told one of them I am really glad we are having this fight today. As players of colour this is what we always assumed you guys think of us. This is what we always assumed you would talk about. Now that we are on opposite teams and it’s kicking off in the middle, I am happy I know who sits next to me in the national team. Now we know where we stand.”Prince went on to score 150, opening the batting, in his comeback Test. “I raised my bat to my parents, then to my wife on the other side of the stadium and then lastly and reluctantly, I raised my bat to my team-mates,” he said. “If I had a choice, I wouldn’t have raised my bat to them. We weren’t a team.”He went on to enjoy a successful county career with Lancashire, which he described as more enjoyable than playing for the national team, and to coach the Cobras. Prince still believes there are problems with the way CSA approaches transformation, specifically by having different targets for black African players and other players of colour, and appealed to the administrators to “think of better ways to select cricket teams.”The SJN hearings have been extended to August 6, and could go on beyond that, before the ombudsman, Advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza, compiles a report for CSA.

Arsenal sold Haaland & Kane hybrid for £4m, now he’s outscoring Havertz

Let’s cast your mind back to January 2024. Arsenal were in a rut and it was a run of form that likely ultimately cost them the league title.

The goals were not flowing with a run around the New Year period where they scored just once across three games meaning a new striker was a priority.

Ivan Toney was one option but he came and went, before penning terms in Saudi Arabia over the summer. By that point, however, a new centre-forward was not at the top of the bucket list anymore.

RB Leipzig sensation Benjamin Sesko may have been a target but he signed a new contract in Germany and is perhaps one for the future.

For now, however, the Gunners are more than happy with a certain Kai Havertz who has been nothing short of remarkable since being employed as the club’s no.9.

Kai Havertz's season in numbers so far

This time last year Havertz was handed a charity penalty by Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard away at Bournemouth.

It was late September and the controversial £65m signing from Chelsea had been anything but a success, failing to score up to that point.

He opened his account on that sunny afternoon at the Vitality Stadium and since then hasn’t looked back. The German scored a late winner against Brentford and after that moment, he’s become a cult hero at the Emirates Stadium.

Havertz has started the current campaign like a house on fire, scoring six goals in ten games. He’s also emulating a fellow left-footer in Robin van Persie, having now scored in seven successive home matches. Not bad indeed.

As a striker in Arsenal colours, he is up there with the very best in the world, having registered 20 goal involvements in 20 games (12 goals and 8 assists), averaging one every 83 minutes.

The turnaround from a year ago is quite incredible. The former Leverkusen star is now one of the first names on the team sheet. Football is a funny old game sometimes, isn’t it?

Speaking of remarkable rises, Mika Biereth has had quite the last year in front of goal. He’s also now outscoring Havertz…

Where Are They Now

Your star player or biggest flop has left the club but what are they doing in the present day? This article is part of Football FanCast's Where Are They Now series.

How Biereth is performing after leaving Arsenal

When Biereth signed for Arsenal as a teenager from Fulham in July 2021 there were great hopes for a young centre-forward who was a pretty relentless goalscorer at youth level.

It never quite happened for him, although he’s finally getting his flowers in the senior game now.

The 21-year-old starred out on loan last season, scoring 15 goals in 37 matches for Motherwell in Scotland then Sturm Graz in Austria.

He helped them to win the league title and was scoring goals in the Europa Conference League. It was a breakout year but it wasn’t enough to earn him a place back in the Arsenal first-team.

Like Flo Balogun a year before, Edu and Co decided to sell while he was in form. Sturm Graz came calling again and agreed upon a £4m transfer fee. It’s peanuts for a club like Arsenal but represents fine business for an academy product regardless.

So, how’s he performed since? Well, the London-born striker who qualifies for Denmark, has scored seven goals in nine league matches, one more than the red-hot Havertz. In all competitions, he’s got eight across 13 outings.

That tally was greatly helped by a hat-trick over the weekend as Biereth knocked three goals past RB Salzburg in an incredible 5-0 rout.

There is unlikely to be too much regret on Arsenal’s end but they have lost a unique player here, someone who was described as a ‘Haaland-Kane hybrid’ last season after an interview with British newspaper, the Independent.

Speaking to the publication, the striker self-confessed that he had similar elements to his game.

He clearly rates himself, which is obviously good, and it’s that attitude which has taken Biereth to a new level out in Austria over the last ten months or so.

It would not be a surprise to see the young Dane end up in one of Europe’s top five leagues over the coming years. He is a man on fire.

Arsenal have an amazing Hale End gem who could be even better than Nwaneri

Ethan Nwaneri has been a breakout star of the 2024/25 campaign to date.

Newcastle council officials spotted as PIF guests in new stadium update

As the international break rumbles on, a fresh update has emerged on Newcastle United’s plan to move away from their iconic St James’ Park and into a new stadium in nearby Leazes Park.

Newcastle set to follow recent trend

Whether it’s Highbury, White Hart Lane or the Boleyn Ground, the Premier League has lost some iconic stadiums over the years. Clubs have instead opted to upgrade and step into the modernity of fresh and bigger grounds such as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – arguably England’s most modern stadium – and the London Stadium, which played host to the 2012 London Olympics.

More clubs are now set to follow suit. Everton, one of England’s oldest clubs, are set to bid farewell to Goodison Park at the end of the current campaign. In its place, the Toffees will finally complete their move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium which will almost mirror Spurs’ previous move away from White Hart Lane.

Forget Wilson: Newcastle could unearth their next Isak in academy sensation

Newcastle United are very excited about this young hotshot.

ByKelan Sarson Oct 16, 2024

Whilst tradition has been ditched, the new grounds are certainly eye-catching and stand out even more when reflecting on Manchester United’s stubborn resolve over a decaying Old Trafford before Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival and plan to upgrade across the club in a plan that the Magpies now look set to follow.

Newcastle's stadium plans update

According to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, local Newcastle council officials were spotted as PIF’s guests to hold talks over the club’s plan to build a new stadium at Leazes Park, which is directly behind current stadium St James’ Park.

Hope explained the news on his YouTube channel, saying: “This is another question, do I think the uncertainty around PSR and APT has delayed the club’s announcement over plans for a new stadium?

“No, I don’t think there has, I think there has just been a delay because they’re getting their ducks in a row for what I’m increasingly believing will be an attempt to move into Leazes Park. That isn’t easy, that isn’t straightforward. But there is a recognition on the inside now that a new stadium is needed, but they want to stay on the site.

“St James’ is wonderful, it’s fantastic, I don’t have to go over that, but is it fit for purpose in terms of being that top class level of stadium we see now around the world? If Newcastle can maintain that city centre location and that iconic spot on the top of the hill but by building just behind in Leazes Park.

“The Freeman of the City of the council will be key to this, the Freemen have been guests at St James’ Park and I’m led to believe there have been positive talks in that regard. I think that is the way the club will look to explore.”

With talks reportedly positive over their move, Newcastle must now hope that the Freemen in the council will help progress things even further. Seemingly the key, according to Hope, a Freeman has the full rights and privileges of a City to play a role in elections and trade. Get their approval and Newcastle may just follow Everton and Spurs by swapping the old and historic for the new and modern.

Joe Root rues England's 'missed opportunities' after Jasprit Bumrah throws fifth day into reverse

England captain says they should have been more “ruthless” in first innings

ESPNcricinfo staff06-Sep-2021England captain Joe Root highlighted his side’s lack of “ruthlessness” with the bat in their first innings, as well as dropped catches and a pivotal spell of reverse-swing from Jasprit Bumrah on the final afternoon, after India wrapped up victory in the fourth Test at the Kia Oval for a 2-1 series lead.Having been set a record chase of 368 to win, England reached 100 without loss on the fifth morning, but suffered a dramatic slide after lunch, losing 4 for 6 inside six overs with Bumrah to the fore. Thoughts of a historic fourth-innings pursuit quickly evaporated, and the dismissal of Root for 36 shortly before tea all but extinguished England’s chances of seeing out the day for a draw.Root gave credit to India, calling Bumrah’s spell the “turning point”, but was quick to look elsewhere for reasons behind the 157-run defeat. Having bowled out India for 191 on the first day – which itself represented something of a recovery from 127 for 7 – England took a 99-run lead on first innings; but none of their middle order was able to fully capitalise on good positions, with Ollie Pope making 81, and Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali 37 and 35 respectively.”It’s frustrating not to be able to get something from the game today, we turned up this morning and really felt we had an opportunity to win the Test,” Root told Sky Sports. “The opening partnership was outstanding, but credit to India, they got the ball to reverse and made good use of that, it was a brilliant spell of bowling from Bumrah and that really was the turning point.Related

Jasprit Bumrah special gives relentless India 2-1 series lead

Virat Kohli: Among the top three bowling performances I've seen as captain

“More from my side of things, we’d look at other areas in the Test where we may have missed opportunities, could have been a little bit better, could have made more of an advantage of that first-innings lead. And obviously in the field, as well, as difficult as some of those chances were, you’ve got to take them against world-class players.”Whenever you lose the game you can look at the toss. More than anything, you look at what lead we had and what we could have potentially had. That’s the thing, we’ve got to be a bit more ruthless there, we’ve got to make that a 200-run lead instead of a 100-run lead, especially the way the surface was playing. It’s about those big partnerships, we had a number of good starts, guys getting in and not managing to go on, that’s something we’ve got to be clinical at, not get complacent.”England’s head coach, Chris Silverwood, echoed the point, saying he would have liked to “go further past” India on first innings.”If we’re being truthful, I would like to have gone further past them at that point, that’s going to be the opportunity to really put pressure on the Indians,” he said. “We failed to do that so it’s something we’ll reflect on in the dressing room and talk about amongst ourselves. It would have been great to go maybe 190 past them and really pile the pressure on, but again credit to the Indians, they know how to fight back.”A second century opening stand in successive Tests between Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed had given England hope of pulling off something special on the fifth day. In contrast to the draw with New Zealand at Lord’s earlier in the summer, when they declined to chase 273 in 75 overs, Root said England were keen to take on the chase – but Burns was removed by Shardul Thakur for 50 and Dawid Malan was run out soon after as the home side stuttered.”We had to earn the right to get ourselves in a position to dictate terms,” Root said. “It was always going to have to be the case that we needed wickets in hand. We certainly set things up nicely. Going into lunch it would have been nice to be only one down. It was more if we got into a position near tea where we had wickets in hand then we could have definitely looked to put our foot on the gas and put India under pressure.”You know when there is wickets in hand you always feel like you can score quickly. India would have probably had to be a little more defensive with some of their fields and they would have had that in the back of their mind that we could chase them down. Unfortunately we couldn’t quite take it deep enough and that was a wonderful spell of bowling that really turned the game.”It was Bumrah’s spell of 2 for 6 from six overs just after lunch that knocked the stuffing out of England. With the old ball reversing, he bowled Pope for 2 and then yorked Bairstow with a vicious inswinging yorker for a duck. Either side of those dismissals, Ravindra Jadeja removed Hameed and Moeen as India took a grip.”I think you’ve always got to look at ways of getting better, and managing different periods of play, absolutely,” Root said. “But at the same time you’ve got to be realistic and understand that was world-class bowling. [Bumrah] saw an opportunity within the game and performed extremely well. Sometimes you’ve got to find a way of managing through that period. It’s something we’ll look at, there’s a chance there might be some reverse swing at Old Trafford, have to manage it better if we come across a similar situation.”Another aspect for concern was England’s catching, with six chances being spilled throughout the game – including India’s second-innings centurion, Rohit Sharma, being missed twice by Burns, albeit one was a tough diving effort that he did well to get a hand to.England missed costly chances in the field•Getty Images

“There were some very difficult chances, a lot of players might not even get to that one that Burnsy went to, the fact he covered so much ground’s a great effort. It is a difficult viewing ground at times here but we’ve got to keep looking to get better, looking to take those chances. It’s not for lack of effort, or work in practice or how we’re preparing for games, we’ve just got to keep putting yourself in those positions and be brave enough to take it on.”With the third of back-to-back-to-back Tests set to get underway at Old Trafford on Friday, and their new-ball pair of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson having bowled more than 160 overs in the series so far, England may have to look at making changes to the attack. Craig Overton also suffered a painful blow to his right elbow when being dismissed by Umesh Yadav, while Saqib Mahmood, who was part of the squad before being released to play for Lancashire, has reportedly suffered a side strain – although there was better news on the fitness of Mark Wood, after he hurt his shoulder in the field at Lord’s.”Woody’s coming good, that’s promising,” Root said. “It has been a frustrating summer in terms of the amount of injuries we’ve had to contend with, that’s not an excuse but something that’s been difficult to manage. But the guys that have had the opportunity to play and the way they’ve thrown themselves into the series, they’ve been excellent. It’ll be one big push for the guys that go out and play next week at Old Trafford.”On whether Anderson might be fit enough to make his seventh Test appearance of the summer – something he hasn’t managed since 2018 – Root added: “I think you have to weigh everything up – you have to take everything into account, make sure that physically he’s in the right place to be able to play a Test match. And also that he makes sure that he can get through it, because at the same time, even with his quality if he goes down injured, it leaves us in a very difficult place, not only for the rest of the game, but for the winter as well.”So we have to be smart about it we have to make sure we make the right calls. Ultimately, we’ve got to try and find a way of winning as well so it’s a delicate balancing act, one that we’ll try and make sure we get right.”England now face needing to win at Old Trafford to avoid losing both home series this summer. “You never want to lose any Test series so it’s going to be very important that we bounce back very quickly just as we did a week ago [at Headingley] and put in a similar sort of performance at Old Trafford,” Root said.

Rodgers must drop Maeda to unleash Celtic’s "brilliant" star

Celtic are back in action in the Champions League this evening as they travel to Bergamo to take on Atalanta in their third match of the League Phase.

The Hoops are on show in the teatime kick-off later today and have a chance to bounce back from their bitterly disappointing trip to Germany in their last game in the competition.

Brendan Rodgers’ side had beaten Slovakian side Slovan 5-1 at Parkhead in their first outing in the Champions League, thanks to goals from Kyogo Furuhashi, Liam Scales, Adam Idah, Daizen Maeda, and Arne Engels.

However, they were then humbled in their next clash as they were hammered 7-1 by Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in Germany, going 5-1 down by half-time.

The Northern Irish head coach must ensure that his team give a better account of themselves in this match against Atalanta and he could look to make some changes to his starting XI in order to do so.

Celtic were held to a 2-2 draw by Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership last time out, after going in 2-0 ahead at the break, and one player who should be in danger of losing their place is Daizen Maeda.

Daizen Maeda's performance against Aberdeen

The Japan international lined up on the left flank and did not do enough to justify his selection, with a poor performance against the joint-league-leaders.

He was handed a dismal player rating of 4/10 by The Scotsman, who wrote that the attacker was ‘off the pace’ in attack and partially culpable for Aberdeen’s equaliser, by giving the ball away in the build-up to the goal.

Celtic's Daizen Maeda.

Maeda was involved in the second goal for Celtic, scored by Kyogo Furuhashi, but it was far from a high-quality involvement. The winger was sent away down the left channel and scuffed a poor left-footed cross straight at the Aberdeen centre-back, who then produced a dreadful clearance straight to Reo Hatate, whose effort then deflected for the striker to score.

Outside of that, the 26-year-old dud endured a frustrating afternoon at Parkhead on Saturday and may have given Rodgers a decision to make ahead of tonight’s game.

As you can see in the table above, the Japanese dud did not make a big impact in the final third, with zero shots on target and zero ‘big chances’ created, and struggled out of possession.

He was dominated by opposition defenders, who came out on top against him in six of eight duels, and his performance against Aberdeen is one of the reasons why the winger should be brutally binned against Atalanta.

Why Daizen Maeda should be dropped

His dismal showing against the Dons was just the latest of a run of three poor performances in succession from the experienced Celtic forward.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast's Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

Before the international break, Maeda started in the 2-1 win over Ross County in Dingwall but was substituted in the 68th minute, with the Hoops 1-0 down, and that was one of the catalysts for the team’s comeback.

In that match, the attacker had three shots on goal and missed one ‘big chance’ to get his team level, as they were 1-0 down at the time, and failed with both of his attempted crosses.

The lightweight also lost five of his six duels throughout the game and this shows that, once again, opposition players found it too easy to get the better of him.

Maeda did score in the 7-1 defeat to Dortmund in the match before the trip to Ross County, but his all-round display in Germany was less than impressive.

As you can see in the table above, the Hoops dud was dominated physically by the Bundesliga giants and struggled defensively, making an error that directly led to a goal and being dribbled past three times.

Therefore, Rodgers must brutally ditch Maeda from the starting XI after three underwhelming performances in succession, which would open the door for James Forrest to be unleashed from the start.

What James Forrest could bring for Celtic

The veteran attacker has mainly been utilised as an impact substitute for the Scottish giants so far this season, but Maeda’s poor form could present him with a chance to come into the line-up.

He was an unused substitute in the 7-1 defeat to Dortmund, as the game was already gone at half-time at 5-1 down, but did come on to make an impact in the first Champions League game against Slovan.

Celtic winger James Forrest.

The Scotland international came off the bench against the Slovakian outfit and produced a superb through ball to split open the defence and assist Adam Idah for the fifth goal on the night.

That was his fourth assist in six appearances in all competitions at the time but he has gone four matches without a goal contribution, only starting one of those.

Forrest has shown promise in his last two appearances as a substitute for Celtic, though, with strong cameos against Ross County and Aberdeen after coming on to replace Maeda in both of those Premiership games.

As you can see in the table above, the Scottish ace made himself a constant threat at the top end of the pitch with nine shots taken and one chance created in just 49 minutes of action.

In short, Forrest – who was hailed as “brilliant” by Rodgers – makes an impact in the final third and causes constant problems for opposition defenders with his graceful play.

Given Maeda’s poor form in recent weeks, domestically and in Europe, the manager must unleash the experienced star from the start and brutally ditch the Japan international from the starting XI.

Imam-ul-Haq’s half-century and Junaid Khan’s three wickets lifted Balochistan to an emphatic six-wicket win over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The victory lifted them off the bottom position and also provided some hope to finish in the top four.Balochistan, who had four players ruled out due to to Covid-19, opted to field first. Debutant Aamer Azmat was dismissed by Junaid in the opening open before Israrullah (19) and Mohammad Rizwan (17) helped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to recover. Balochistan’s bowlers were largely economical, with a few exceptions including Haris Sohail, who conceded 21 in 2 overs. There were cameos from Fakhar Zaman (12 off 13) and Mohammad Wasim (12 off 14) as the scoring rate was kept in check. It was Sahibzada Farhan who provided impetus to the innings with 78 off 49 balls, with nine fours and one six, to help his side post a steady 155.While chasing, Balochistan started slowly with openers Abdul Bangalzai (14) Abdullah Shafique (28) sharing a 33-run stand in 5.1 overs. Imam anchored the innings smartly with an unbeaten 64. Wickets fell around him, including Harris (14 off 16) and Umaid Asif (20 off 12), but Imam and Amad Butt (12* off 5) carried Balochistan home with two balls to spare.
